People look at me weird when I say Volvo is Chinese but I keep saying it.
Smart is also Chinese and nobody wants to believe it when I tell them.
Huh, learn something every day, I thought smart were Mercedes? Or am I 15 years out of date?
Both of you would be correct. Smart is coowned 50/50 by Mercedes-Benz and a Chinese Company.
How are electric cars a "new chapter in sustainable mobility"? They will still be an incredibly inefficient method of transport compared to all the alternatives.
What alternatives? They are cheaper and more sustainable than any other automobile. They are still worse than walking, biking, and taking public transit - but those are not always options. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good enough. (which isn't to say don't work for better public transit)
You ask for alternatives and then provide then? Then you say that when there are no better options then EV's are the best option which doesn't put them in a great light at all.
I think mining the rare metals needed to manufacture lithium batteries to create luxury SUVs and Sedans that'll transport one person at a time is a gross waste of the earth's resources and it's bullshit to call that sustainable.
For 1% of people you're right, they'll have the desire and fortitude to compromise their lifestyle for not owning their own vehicle.
For the other 99%, moving them away from buying an ice car to an EV car has to be considered an improvement.
I gave up my car for an electric moped, I don't regret it but do suffer in the winter. I'd likely say most people would consider me someone who "needs" a car but I'm making do
73.5% of unsourced statistics are made up.
That doesn't really matter, since 8 out of 5 people suffer from dyscalculia.
Hah, fair point. Just my opinion, a high percentage of people in this world will not inconvenience themselves by transitioning to a less than ideal transport solution for the the good of the planet.
Hope that's more suitably vague
Diesel cars?
All the alternatives? In terms of energy percentage used by the drivetrain? Who told you that? You sound like an O&G troll.
Also, the link leads to Volvo itself, so it's a marketing twist, and it doesn't refer to "electric cars", but only to the ES90.
Itโs also important to note that Volvo is based in Sweden ๐ธ๐ช with an ev penetration rate of 60%
They only make some engines there afaik.
