If you have a YouTube Premium or YouTube Music paid account, it'll need to be used by people in your household so as not to get flagged.

Is it based on ip address? What about when everyone in the household is using their own mobile data?

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 4 points 1 week ago

“YouTube would like access to your location.”

[–] doctortofu@piefed.social 13 points 1 week ago

What's next, account suspension and 15 lashes every time you tell someone about a video you watched on youtube without paying Google?

[–] C1pher@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

This is what happens when you keep paying for bullshit "services". They keep pushing and pushing... in the end you wont get shit for your money.

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If I cared about YouTube Premium and sharing it across addresses I’d probably just tunnel into the payer’s network.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I would cancel the plan. And use whatever ad block is at my disposal.

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah I’ve got Google’s servers and thousands of domains completely blocked on the layered VPN tunnels I call my network. I don’t care about YouTube in the slightest, and I pay for whatever I actually want to stream.

Cool im hearing that im setting my parents up with wireshark

[–] 6nk06@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I love Wireshark but they don't deserve to suffer. What have they done?

[–] Funky_Beak@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 week ago

Birthing me was a big one.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Isn't Wireshark just a packet sniffer? What exactly does that resolve for this situation?

[–] Funky_Beak@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I meant wirguard. Urgh sorry! My brain always mixes those two for some reason.

[–] BlackLaZoR@fedia.io 5 points 1 week ago

I watch it using GrayJay app from one and only Louis Rossmann because fuck them

[–] HiTekRedNek@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Because fuck truck drivers, commercial fishermen, pilots, traveling salesmen, and all those other people who routinely spend weeks or months away from home, and still wind up with a few hours a week of free time to watch streams.

[–] Hayduke@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I had them cram it with walnuts when they nearly tripled the price of it. Brave browser gets me 90% of the features with 0% of the effort or cost. Just can’t download. No worries.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And 100% of the referrer-hijacking. 🤣

I get that it's a neat browser, but I don't understand how people can continue supporting it after such blatant disregard for user agency.

[–] Hayduke@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wasn’t aware of that. Good to know. Youtube is the solitary thing I use it for and I don’t navigate outside the site for merch/product links, but that is some scummy Honey nonsense right there.

Time to look around for an alternative. Thanks!

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

Idk about the alt browser but for downloading there's ytdl on pc and ytdlnis on android.

[–] mintiefresh@piefed.ca 1 points 1 week ago

Enshitification is just so annoying and tiring.

[–] PMmeTrebuchets@lemmy.zip -2 points 1 week ago

FML I'm going to have to get my own premium now
