This episode was straight fyre

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago

First episode I saw of the series too. Was almost a let down realizing few would be able to live up to that episode.

[–] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 months ago

Still my favourite honestly. I saw OP's picture and was like "could this photo have inspired Zima blue?!"

[–] blargh513@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The Very Pulse of the Machine is one of my favorites. Zima Blue is excellent as well.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Oh yeah, definitely, that one too!

Ep. Zima Blue

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

That was the closest LDR got to Animatrix’s level.

[–] blackluster117@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago

First thing I thought of when I saw the meme.

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 60 points 2 months ago (1 children)

She and Dolph were quite a striking pair.

If they ever had a kid he could have cracked the Brooklyn Bridge in two with his jaw

[–] UpperBroccoli@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 2 months ago

And the child's body could have naturally produced cocaine.

Grace is one of a kind, such a fantastic artist. Her cover to "Island Life" is one of the greatest album covers ever, has been on my wall for years.

Awesome, a pre Photoshop edit iirc

[–] ordnance_qf_17_pounder@reddthat.com 30 points 2 months ago (3 children)

She was cool as hell in that one 007 film

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago

Yes! A View To A Kill! Christopher Walken also makes for an excellent Bond villain. Probably one of the most underrated Bond films imo. Lots of great scenes in that one. Also the least “Bond Girl” of them all.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I never noticed she had such severe exotropia.

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 months ago

Had to look that one up. Strabismus (lazy eye) where one eye points out.

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

So it's pretty well known by this point that Star Trek is my major hyperfixation but James Bond is dangerously close behind it. A View To a Kill? My favorite movie. Funnily enough, Roger Moore's least favorite. Dude wasn't a big fan of guns or violence, especially after a gun exploded in his face when he was a kid. Because of all the added violence in A View to a Kill it put him off a bit.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Also he was 57 and Tanya Roberts was in her 20s - an age difference so stark it made even Roger Moore feel gross.

[–] zout@fedia.io 12 points 2 months ago

Just fyi, when you type "even Roger Moore" you make it sound like he was normally into younger women. In reality he found it disgusting to be cast against girls who were "young enough to be his grand daughters".

[–] zebidiah@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

He was older than she dad iirc

the album cover

she's so badass

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Smoking looks like shit no matter what. But she looks cool otherwise.

[–] Lawelen@fedia.io 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Looks like they added the sigaret after, to me...

[–] ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Grace Jones has serious screen presence. I knew her first as Zula from Conan the Destroyer.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

I sadly only know her from Hell A Cyberpunk Thriller

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How much of that is in-camera?

Early photographic treatments had terrible response for longer wavelengths, which is why wrinkles looked fucking awful. It lost all the subsurface scattering that makes skin soft. Basically you got the blue channel from any modern color photograph. I suspect that effect could work in color, in 1981, with some goofy color balance and incorrect lighting... but I'm not certain. I know color photos made black subjects look dark as hell until wooden furniture catalogs forced Kodak to develop a better formulation. I don't think the typical effect was quite so... onyx.

The effect could also be thrown by the color of the jacket and the wall. They look black and beige, respectively, but the jacket could be burgundy and get lost in a blue gel filter. Maybe only the red of her lips is touched-up.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It’s a black and white photo colourised by hand.

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

Well that's fucking boring.

Good job on the color grading in what are technically the midtones, but come on, I wanted this to somehow be real light hitting this badass bitch.

1981

Yeah, those shoulder pads track. And the cigarette, too.

Just missing enough hairspray to punch a hole through the ozone layer.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago

That flattop tho

Here's Grace Jones utterly unable to control herself while comedian Micky Flanagan talks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwkRoGhe-RI

What a ride, thanks for sharing

I am playing DnD right now (during an insanely tense boss fight, thus the distraction so I don't cry because I am effectively out of it anyway due to overpowered spells that I can't complain about because they exist) but I am itching to watch this and saving it immediately...

Also I made a meme earlier about ADHD people using brackets all the time. Shoot me.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

Does it count as black face if you're already black?

[–] starchylemming@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

let me be square with you ....

[–] S_H_K@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 months ago

When you get fuck by a Salamander Astartes and it rubs on.

[–] blackluster117@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

Just needs the imbedded lenses and she'd would've been an amazing Molly Millions.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Saw her play a few years back and she can hula hoop through the entirety of Slave To The Rhythm like a champ.

[–] MrJollyLivesNextDoor@aussie.zone 1 points 2 months ago

Not to mention she was in her sixties at the time. if your talking about the royal command performance. Also performed a whole set naked around that time.
