The vote will occur over 4 days. From August 21-25 GMT.

We will upgrading the room to version 12 to ensure the most security and we will make the additional changes based on your input.

There have been issues with the encrypted chat not showing the messages of certain users.

This referendum is using the single transferable vote method. You can select your favourite choice as the only option or rank your choices in order from a, b, c. If one option receives more than 50% of the vote than that is the winner however if none reach the majority then we will have do a process of elimination based on the first choices and the following ranks.

  1. Consolidation: Archive the encrypted chat and migrate to an unencrypted one.
  2. More Options: Make an unencrypted one alongside the encrypted one.
  3. No changes: just use the encrypted chat.

Feedback in the comments is welcome!

My vote is 2,1,3. The unencrypted chat should be the default to reduce friction and the encrypted chat would be preferable when discussing privacy alternatives.

This is what I'd favour too, though I'm not involved in the Matrix rooms. Just as an outsider it seems handier to have both options available.

Like the others: 1, 2, 3

I don't think there is any benefit to encrypting publicly available chatrooms.

edit: corrected vote

2, 1, 3.

No point getting rid of the encrypted channel, but an unencrypted channel will be much less problematic for people to join.

2, unencrypted. I thought it was already, based on how many issues encryption can create in Matrix

Doesnt make any sense to encrypt public rooms.
