/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

When in grade school, studying WW2 everyone was asking how things were able to get that bad.

Now, we're witnessing it, being fully documented in real time and stored on the Internet and social media.

When I was in high school, I was asking my history teacher if Hitler was considered a “good Christian” by contemporary theological standards. I was that dude.

Thank you for your service in fighting blind obedience.

When in grade school, studying WW2 everyone was asking how things were able to get that bad.

That's a problem, history seems to be more about "here's the battles" not "here's why the battles happened".

Shame that, the why and causality of event to event is, to me, the most fascinating part of history. That, and the "oh, they weren't so different :D / oh, we're not so different -_-" moments.

Now it'll be "here's the battles caused by wokeness"

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Future child: so how was this battle caused by wokeness?

Them: homosexuals wanted to keep their right to get married so we showed up in masks and harassed them to the point we started killing them.

They'll just accuse all gay and trans people of being pedophiles

History does love a rhyme.

Only because limericks are rhymes... usually.

Well, we just got the first Sanctuary District announced in Washington...

Just to point out that we are late, but the direction seems to be right.

The temporal wars messed things up a bit ... we're behind schedule but we're still on track .... the question now is whether we'll survive WWIII or not .... in the old timeline, things worked out but now that the timeline has changed, we aren't sure any more :(

If you prefer your "how things got so bad" in youtube video essay form I watched Downton Abbey and the Origin of Capitalism recently and found it good.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Capitalism, for the most part... Honestly...

I mean, yeah, you might say it's dumb to blame everything on one thing. But look at how many world shaping decisions were made in the name of profits. Decisions that are still being made now.

No wonder they're not looking to enthused about trading the rest of the volume. They got through all the fuckin' first. 🤷🏼‍♂️
