Australia is very concerned about U.S. President Donald Trump's latest threat to raise tariffs on pharmaceutical imports by up to 250% over the longer term, its health minister said on Thursday.

Trump said this week that the United States would first impose a "small" tariff on foreign-made drugs before hiking it to 150% within 18 months and eventually to 250% in an effort to boost domestic production.

Mark Butler said the plan would be a blow to producers such as CSL, opens new tab, Australia's largest biotech company.

America can eat shit.

We should be telling them that if they increase tariffs over Pharma, we'll just adopt India's position of not honoring pharmaceutical patents.

As a us citizen I encourage that.

That actually sounds like it could be beneficial to a lot of people if we found a way to limit pharma patents.

Free Open Source Pharma (FOSP) would be nice. I've only seen small things like the Four Thieves Vinegar Collection before though. https://fourthievesvinegar.org/microlab/

Every action taken by our President Tiny Dick is, in a word, shit. However, amongst a stinking pile of nothing but shit, this one stinks to high heaven. It's a well known fact we get charging fucking way too much for anything healthcare related, especially pharmaceuticals. And now we're even more fucked. All because everyone in the world knows that of all the world leaders that have ever lived, or will live, his dick is by far the tiniest. 🤬🤮

Edit: Please don't make me eat (more) shit, btw! I mean, c'mon, just look at how much shit this jackass is forcing down our throats already. 😔

No PPM limit for Fecal contamination in US Meat, only if it's 'visible'. mmmmm

Isn’t that more akin to diarrhea, solid shit is more like a triple baconator with curly fries.

We should but Labor are in government.

Could be worse though the Liberals could be in and they’d just say “Yes Sir!” And dismantle the PBS.

You can have any "democratically" elected government you want, as long as they're corporate whores pre-screened, pre-filtered, pre-validated, and pre-financed by the wealthiest oligarchs.

Exactly why honor their parents at this point.

We need a fallback plan for when all else fails, since we obviously can't trust politicians and Big Pharma with our health. Wasn't there an open source project aimed at making the knowledge of how to synthesize drugs available to all? We need to build on that, and also a searchable database of naturally occurring compounds and their pharmacological effects. I want to be able to search a list drugs that might have similar effects to the ones I'm taking, just in case I don't get my Rxs refilled for whatever reason.

The challenge with that database would be to keep the Ivermectin Vitamin A RFK detox brainworm people from polluting it with nonsense.

[–] Waveform@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Definitely. It would have to be curated similarly to Wikipedia, with discussions, disclaimers and ample references. Also, it would need to be stressed that alternative medicines only be used as a last resort.
