Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

Unfortunately, probably not. Please surprise me Carney

[–] swordgeek@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 days ago

Nope. Not a chance.

Carney has been a disappointment, even for those of us who didn't have high hopes.

I hope Carney does the right thing and stands up to Trump and the US. However regardless of what "deal" he may be pressured into, I will not be buying American items until Trump and his acolytes are gone. I realize I may die of old age before ever buying anything or visiting the US again. Such a shame.

Any one who thinks this ends with Trump is delusional. The Republicans have the court system squarely in their pocket and well for decades. Maybe a century cause Democrats are afraid of offending anybody and do what ever Republicans tell them to.

Bill C2 removes canadians constitutional rights to privacy by giving police and the government access to our data and mail without warrant and also gives the US access to that same data. which will be shared with private entities like palantir, a company actively working towards dark enlightenment.

on that bill alone i have lost any faith i had that carney cared about our well being. the cuts hes planning to make will effect our already struggling and overcut healthcare system, and many other social programs. in increasing amounts, annually over the next three years.

hes a repackaged conservative whos attempting to open us up to privatisation. feeding tax dollars into "nation building projects" essentially paying for corporate projects on our dime. especially in the energy sector, and oil. for someone who is supposed to be climate concious, this is another nail in the coffin of climate change.

the US and oligarchs the world over are cheering for this while most people are still blindly believing hes our "answer" to trump.

hes the richest PM we have ever had, a banker, and also still has the ability to manipulate markets for the benefit of his "blind trust" which also has american holdings.

he says a lot without answering questions fully, using corpo speak, he just throws out terms that sound nice to placate his worried supporters before they get buyers remorse. and then shuts down reporters who ask him hard questions, from either side of the political spectrum.

he lied about no longer supporting israel, and is still sending them weapons, ammunition, and parts for F35 jets after saying we would no longer being doing that. and so is complicit in genocide.

hes full of shit, and we fell for it out of fear of trump.

and the media and people just loooooove this guy, by design, and refuse to look into the long stretching implications of his policies because "at least hes not PP!". hes shifted the overton window further to the right with virtually nobody noticing. and destroyed the federal NDP in the process. the left is dying in canada, and they dont even realize it.

we are being fattened up for a corporate takeover and economic annexation. as well as drifting further into a surveillance state. our rights and social programs slowly being stripped away with a smile and promise for a better future

hes not our friend, hes a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Nope. He already backed down on the digital services tax and now he's handing them our private data. If someone threatens you you don't respond by submitting a bill giving them access to you data.

He'll sell us out like the neocapitalist he is.

I have to agree. These are deeply disturbing concessions for zero benefit to Canadians. I hope Carney isn't a total fuckup and sellout, but hope is draining fast after those egregious mistakes.
