Not really though. It's drivers and cyclists versus thick-headed idiots who refuse to understand that removing bicycle lanes makes things worse for everyone.

(Just responding to the headline since the nytimes website is too broken for me since the recent changes, archive.ph is givng me a captcha, and my estimation of the quality of the paper itself is not sufficient to make me figure out how to read it.)

The problem I see is an overall lack of infrastructure. People want cars to have room because with mass immigration and a lack of high speed rail it's now congested to hell.

Still the only country in the G7 without high speed rail, but we subsidize the rich to replace their 3 year old Lexus with a Tesla cybertruck.

It's more like city councillors vs. cyclists at the behest of wealthy and influential drivers, really. They're the ones beating around the bush on protected bike lanes despite public approval and fairly definitive safety data.
