I moved all my photos, videos and emails to Proton.
I used to be on Outlook. Two weeks ago I made accounts on Proton and Tuta, but didnโt like the missing IMAP and SMTP on the free plans.
I then also made an account on web.de, but they donโt support the plus notation for dynamic addresses (myname+service@email.com). So in the end I payed the 12โฌ for a year of mailbox.org and have been extremely happy with it!
Topic/question that I don't see commented on often: how are you guys finding the telling other people (verbally, out loud) about your email?
I feel I could tell someone "at proton dot com" without having to spell it but in the UK I feel any way I try to pronounce tuta is going to result in me having to say "at tango uniform tango alpha dot com" or otherwise people will misunderstand and send me about a million messages at tutta, toota, Tuter, twitter, doota, or even more creative spellings.
I bought a domain name and set it up on tuta to get an email address that I like. It was super easy to setup, tuta had created a video tutorial that showed how to setup a custom domain step by step.
You can also change your email address to @pm.me which might be easier to say?
What is the provider linked to pm.me?
Proton
My provider (Onet) is a known Polish news outlet so I donโt have such issues at home, but whenever Iโm abroad I just spell it out: โoh-en-ee-teeโ.
Switched to proton, cancelled o365 subscription.
I want to do this so bad. Issue is they don't offer enough storage for me. I need like 3 tb for photos and videos. Hope they offer add-ons to make that a possibility
Better not say it out loud but it's 100% European โค๏ธ
Can you at least tell why you shouldn't say it out loud? I'm curious.
Infomaniak, such a great service for such a low price. Bought my own domain via them and the email hosting is free / just links with their plus plan.
1TB drive for 2 euros a month is a steal
There's a world outside the US/European false dichotomy.
I've been with Fastmail since 2019 and you couldn't pay me to go elsewhere. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Switched to Posteo about a decade ago
Onet, a Polish news website. I used it for my first ever e-mail and since then I have been using it kind of out of habit. Never felt a need to switch to something more robust.
Of course I have a gmail account too, but I use it mostly for things like logins and synchronization rather than for correspondence.
I've been using KolabNow for these past few years. Swiss-based with a focus on privacy. No issues, really like it. I also have a personal e-mail address with my name, but that one I have with a local domain registrar.
I created a mailbox.org account. But so far I have only moved contacts and my calendar. I'm still a bit miffed that they don't support proper oauth/MFA. Guess that never got established as a standard for email :(
But otherwise it works great for what I need.
They do support normal TOTP 2fa, just enable the beta https://mailbox.org/en/post/beta-program-starts
Thanks! Good to know that they're working on it
Proton, but I donโt think they can justify their monthly price for ยซpremiumยป features.
Same here, some features kinda pointless. Like why would I ever need 10 email addresses on one account?
I stick to my state owned ISP
