I knew this would happen. Payment processors did the same thing with firearm accessories, and now they're doing this to adult content. I wonder what else they will try to ban? LGBTQ content?

[–] kugmo@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago

They want that content to demoralize the chuds.

Fucking self righteous fruitcakes (the finance companies, not Steam)

[–] radix@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago

Payment processors, if left on their own, would take any money from any person for any reason. This is more to do with a patchwork of laws that are trying to snuff out anything "adult" and will absolutely sweep up every party even remotely involved in the transaction.

They're covering their own ass. It's cowardice, not righteousness.

I feel like steam is big enough to push back on this?

Like its frustrating when smaller operations get told what to do by visa and MC but steam is MASSIVE. They are not going to give up that revenue if steam says no

Steam is nowhere near big enough to push back against this.

You can't argue with the people that hold the money.

Man there really should be a better money transaction solution then PayPal…

Valve should start its own payment processor.

[–] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 months ago

At this point steam will become the everything app

[–] arin@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Valve does, it's the steam money market. It's just not as big as current payment processors

Well there was crypto but like everything it gets fucked by the greedy/nefarious the moment it's worth something, though I suppose if it can get so corrupted so quickly then it was probably not the greatest solution to begin with

Stuff payment processors don't like is a vague rule.

[–] arin@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Certain kinds of adult content, like drinking ? Smoking? Taxes? Aging?

Transcriptnickyflowers: It would be cool if websites let you be an adult on them. The advertisers and payment processors need everything to be Family Friendly though their definitions of family and friendly are fucked. But since they're in charge of the Internet now, no one is allowed to be an adult. TikTokers say things like "unalive" and "seggs" because they know death and sex are too adult for online. Online is for idiot babies only now because they're easier to market to.

nickyflowers: Oh I'm sorry you're a trans adult? Super ban. You are super banned for life. You have upset Visa's feelings. Mastercard is throwing up in the corner. How could you do this to Google Ads?

Great puritan payment processors stepping outside their lane…
