I have to be honest, I'd be happy just to have one who didn't remind me of Milhouse.
I would love to see a minority government of any form. Make parties work together.
That being said, I'd rather not have to work with Conservatives. There only two policies of "fuck Trudeau" and "fuck carbon tax" just aren't doing it for me.
Eh, their policies are more like "fuck average canadians and protect the rich." Their slogans and talking points are fuck Trudeau and fuck "carbon tax Carney" (carney is eliminating the carbon tax anyway which shows how poorly informed conservative slandering is).
If this happens as per the polls, can my dear friends in the NDP please convince Charlie Angus to run one final leadership campaign? Specifically the not-holding-back version we have right now? I’m no pollster but the mood in this country feels absolutely ripe for that were a leadership campaign to happen now.
Where's my necromancers at? We need our boy Jack (Layton) back.
Although, anyone but the conservatives is a win in my books.
Conservatism really is a cancer
It is. Sadly I know (I think) far too many people who vote for them (mainly old farmers). I don't want to know for sure if they do or not since they're in-laws. But I really hope they don't. They're not stupid individuals, but if that's who you're used to voting for? I don't know.
Tom Mulcair would have been a god (lead pipe cinch right now), but they failed themselves.
They need to put Rachel Notley front and center.
Notley political quadrant is vidtually idebtical to Carney... She ditched progressive agenda in hunt of power
But I can agree that in politics are few people with enough charisma to lead. She is one of them.
I'm really hoping for a minority Liberal + NDP government with an electoral reform deal. Imo it's the most important policies that need to be passed.
What I would give for electoral reform. But it seems so unlikely 😭
NDP wasn't interested last I saw them asked about election reform.
So dumb. That's one of the only ways they get to be more influential. Otherwise, single voter FPTP is going to get them fucked
As long as Singh is running, I strongly doubt that the NDP will have any serious number of seats. It's unfortunate, but people don't trust that spineless flip-flopper and it'll be next to impossible to change such a reputation unless if something extraordinary happens.
Seriously asking: do we think right field voters are answering CBC polls?
Yesterday my Canadian, trump supporting boss, closed out our office's management meeting saying "trump endorsed Carney. Do you think it's reverse psychology?" And the response from one of her middle managers was "Carney doesn't give a shit about Canadians. He just is interested in his wallet."
The propaganda machines are hitting hard already, and I promise you those two would never visit the CBC website let alone answer a CBC survey.
Is any country other than China/Russia/North Korea, doing anything to stop the foreign propaganda machine?
How many far right wins do we have to see before governments realize they need to better regulate social media?
It is usually the older people or people who don't want to get involved that think like this maybe? My grandpa is well informed on the news and politics, but my parents have their head in the sand. I enjoy talking to my grandpa.
In the northern realm of Arnor, where the maple banners yet fly free, a shadow loomed from the south. Krasnov the Cunning, a creature twisted by power and desire, whispered of unity—but his was a unity of chains. “Join us,” he hissed, eyes glinting like tarnished gold. “Become the Fifty-First Hold of my dominion.” But the Free Peoples of the North heard the echo of his words, and in them, they found only the voice of the One Ring, calling for subjugation.
Yet, the realm was not without champions. Strider of the North, a ranger long wandering the halls of gold and commerce, strode forth, now bearing the mantle of leadership. He spoke of sovereignty and steel, of a kingdom that would not bow. By his side stood Boromir of the West, a warrior of the old guard, whose sword-arm was strong but whose heart at times wavered, torn between the power promised by the south and the duty he bore to his homeland.
The battle was not yet upon them, but the winds carried tidings of what was to come. Would the Free Peoples stand firm against the creeping grasp of Krasnov? Or would whispers of power divide them, leaving the land ripe for the taking? The road ahead was perilous, but one truth remained: the North would not fall without a fight.
Please fucking no - majority governments suck.
Compromise is a necessary part of the political process.
There is no compromise with MAGA. The conservatives need to purge that element of their party.
A minority government composed of LPC and NDP or BQ.
The LPC shouldn't have unilateral control but should be required to sell their policies to the other policies.
Yes, I agree minority governments are the most productive.
Yes, but unfortunately we have a system that only produces minorities when you're very close to the other guy getting a majority.
Minority governments are unstable, unpredictable, and result from very close-call elections. They may be okay-ish at getting progressive domestic policies passed, but the priority should be strong foreign policy for the near term. A majority is at least stable and consistent.
I'm a Canadian-US dual citizen - the US can only exist in two forms: supermajority and dysfunction. Trump is an outcome of this binary choice because either someone can do everything they want or nothing - majority governments are a terrible outcome because the divisions of us, the populace, get subsumed by the party platform and policies that may represent just over a quarter of the population can get forced through.
When you have a minority government you need to give and take and policies end up better aligned to the public will - including priorities that the plurality party may not focus on (like the NDP's new dental plan).
Everyone except the CPC is united in rejecting American expansionism. If we have a minority government there will be no hesitation when it comes to telling Americans to fuck off.
