Boycott US
Overview:
The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.
Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.
America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.
America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

Yeah we really do. I'm still very annoyed at Carney for his recent submission with the digital tax.
While I am not happy about the dropping of the DST I can also see why. I don't see it as appeasing him, I see it as buying time while we hammer out the other things being worked on. We are unfortunately not in the best position to play hardball, and the money the DST was going to bring in would be immediately offset by the tariffs that were being planned for all Canadian goods in retaliation.
While I agree that the tariffs would hurt us more than any DST would help us we still need to make a stand and create a bigger, more noticeable, digital economy here in Canada. Sure I personally have moved nearly everything into Canadian services and have started to sail the high C’s, but I know many have not. The 5% would be a rounding error for whatever I pay for the US services I have yet to fully migrate to Canadian ones.
The trick to creating a bigger more noticeable digital economy in Canada is not taxing the digital services of other countries but funding education programs in Tech. Considering the absurd amount of free resources, compiling them all and having a few experts teach the material in online courses would be cost effective and work to promote more Canadians learning the required skills to build our own digital economy instead of relying on the tools and taxation of others.
It's like giving the bully your lunch money. Now that he knows you'll give him free shit he'll just ask for more. It's literally rewarding him for bullying you.
I always fought back or at least shit talked the bullies until they got so mad they left. Gonna fuck with me it’s going to be hard time for you. As an adult I have not changed, I see someone yelling at a7-11 clerk I just start going off on them.
Have you considered that the people "appeasing" Trump are actually on his side pretending not to be? Not that "both sides same" bullshit, but that conservatives have been really good at pretending to not be.
conservatives have been really good at pretending to not be.
I don't think they've been good at that at all, nationally. Most of their federal reps have been pretty clear from trending and statements how they think Canada should go with a Trump presidency, for instance. Our regional cons are doing a better job at only reluctantly rolling over at every turn; but they show that convincing reluctance and fist-shaking first to disguise it.
What are conservatives pretending?
To be Democrats.
Every Canadian should know: Carney has financial ties with Jared Kushner, Trump's inlaw.
We're not led by an adversarial PM, that guy is just a banker that got coronated by the liberal party.
Everyone in a liberal riding should add their representant's phone number to their quick dial and get on their ass the second news like the digital tax drop. They will not fight for you, they might actually be captured altogether, you can't just sit by and expect Carney to be your white knight.
True: Brookfield’s 2018 lease deal with Jared Kushner and Qatar's financing involvement. Misleading/Unverified: Carney’s condo in Trump Tower, bailing out the Kushner family, and a direct role in the 2018 deal. Contextual nuance: He wasn’t involved in the original lease deal, and while the HQ move happened under his watch, it was a board-level decision.

As long as you understand that the LLM is just a word generator, and it doesn't actually "understand" anything. The LLM will cite its sources, and that's the information that can be used. The LLM is a shortcut, not the final answer.
Never appease, never negotiate with bullys, nor terrorists.
gee if only there was some sort of historical evidence that appeasing fascists didn't work.
He’s a bully. That’s how bullies operate. Never give in to bullies, because it just reenforces their idea that bullying works.
We are all Neville Chamberlain on this glorious day.
(War is) Peace in Our Time!
Mark Carney ought to know this, and was elected based on his promises not to appease Trump. But a few weeks in he has already caved. It's pretty infuriating.
Well, yeah - he's a stereotypical bully (just notice how he uses the threat of lawsuits to bully small contractors supplying his companies which he doesn't want to pay) and those invariably see appeasement as proof of the weakness of the other side and will double down on the bullying if they get concessions to extract even more.
Bully, get concessions, bully some more, get more concessions, bully some more, get more concessions and so on is a pretty standard process for bullies.
The way to deal with bullies is to do the exact opposite of giving concessions: go in the very opposite direction and fuck them up, don't just respond in kind, respond with a more hurtful response than their original action. If they react to this by pushing harder, push them back even harder and they always end up backing down, especially if they can come up with some bullshit to save face: China has perfectly demonstrated this process with Trump's tariffs.
I mean, duh?
If only there was some historical precedent, you know, in recent history, that could have given us an indication about the probable outcome of appeasing a fascist leader.
I really did Nazi it coming. I read over a few books, but I haven't Hitler on anything that sounds quite like this...
Of course. His mindset is that of a being who fully believes in his own righteousness and that everything that happens is for his sole benefit
WOW WHO COULD HAVE POSSIBLY PREDICTED THIS!
No way.
No shit Sherlock.
Just to be clear, all of this is well known and has nothing to do with Canada.
It absolutely does have something to do with Canada, we do trade with them...
too bad the supreme court is avoiding the whole topic of his behavior through technicalities such as "we have not addressed the merit of the matter in this ruling" and kicking the can down the road
to no one's surprise...
I am hoping that Carney capitulated just to restart the talks so we can finalize them by July 21st. Whatever deal is reached, from that point on we can just wash that Trump right out of our hair, then we can look elsewhere for our trade opportunities as a new normal part of moving forward.
