In the battle for the soul of the Democratic Party, strategists think Project 2029 can shape the future agenda. But are they learning from past mistakes or ignoring the voices of progressives like Mamdani, Sanders, and AOC?

But are they ... ignoring the voices of progressives like Mamdani, Sanders, and AOC?

Almost certainly.

Project 2029, in summary:

  • More money for cops
  • More money for the military
  • Less money on social programs
  • More tax cuts for billionaires
  • A tiny tax cut for some of the working class, that expires in 2 years

Less money on social programs

How dare you, they would never lower them even more than they have been!

They would maintain the status quo, and in 3 years open up an inquiry as to whether a committee could be established to contemplate on the possibility of maybe increasing their budgets by 0.00001% over the next 100 years (which can be canceled at any time for no reason)

Then sit back and pat themselves on the back for being such a man/woman of the people.

I'm not going to trust any plan the Democratic leadership (or former leadership) put forth until Bernie Sanders endorses it.

Why would you use the same naming convention... wtf.

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

Because our political leaders and their consultants are bad at politics.

Project 2025 is a modern Mein Kampf, so idk if "I'm gonna make my own Mein Kampf! With blackjack! And hookers!" Is the correct response to the Nazi shit we're dealing with now.

Make a plan for sure, but Jesus fucking Christ, guys: branding!

Calling it Project 2029 normalizes the insane Project 2025. Fucking idiot leadership.

[–] pigup@lemmy.world 9 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I don't think they're idiots, I think they know what they're doing. Controlled opposition and so forth.

But are they learning from past mistakes AND NO LONGER ignoring the voices of progressives like Mamdani, Sanders, and AOC?

FTFY

The people the article is talking about are the people Martin's run out of the party...

They're doing this because they don't have a job anymore.

The people who had been running the party and fucking everything up don't have the power to keep fucking stuff up. So they're going to present themselves as "outsiders" against the DNC....

And honestly?

Some people are dumb enough to fall for it.

They're not running anything except their own club they just made for themselves. We don't need to get upset they're not letting progressives join. They would love if we stopped using the DNC (that they don't control) and start using the new thing they just created (because they're in control of it).

It's blatantly obvious what they're doing.

Noooooope.

If you were in anyway involved with anything to do with a US president from 2016-2028, everyone else is better off if you just sit the fuck down and permanently kept your mouth shut.

Regardless of which geriatric piece of shit it was under, they were both mentally incompetent and no one from either admin did the right thing and blew the whistle.

Sullivan was the piece of shit that significantly slowed and diminished US aid to Ukraine since the new, active phase of the war started in February 2022. For that alone, he can go fuck himself.

[–] RIPandTERROR@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

This is like saying you're releasing Mein Kampf 2, good guy edition.

Yes. We need a genocidaire who refused to arm Ukraine adequately near power again.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Yall. The wealthy are already hedging their bets for the next election to ensure the democrats maintain their pro war and pro capital agenda. If we let the democrats put another center right candidate on the ballot we will end up worse than ever. We need a populist progressive anti capitalism president to save this country! (that doesn't mean communism)

is “Project (YYYY)” the new (Service) Pro/Plus”?

[–] coolcat1711@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago

I don't even know how this would work. Project 2025 was an actual plan that discussed how to execute their vision. I don't like it but I applaud their commitment.

I don't think the Democratic establishment even has a real vision to even execute. Which means that their "plan" will be vague and non-executable. The exact opposite of what makes the Project 2025 document actually effective.

Good! COPYING the EXACT thing that Literally EVERY AMERICAN HATED is a Surefire way to Win! MAYBE they can Also REJECT Candidates that Democrats OVERWHELMINGLY approve of like Mamdani! Democrats are About to be Tired of WINNING!

[–] Bieren@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

Like there will be democrats running things in 2029.
