Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

Remember the days when an openly racist comment like this would mean the end of your political career?

[–] peregrin5@piefed.social 115 points 1 day ago (20 children)

For Republicans it actually boosts their poll numbers.

People want to be openly racist again. That's what MAGA really means.

Republican Representative Brandon Gill has told New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani to "go back to the Third World" in response to a video of him eating with his hands.

I guess this asshole has never eaten a burger, chicken, hot dog etc. Fucking racist piece of shit.

[–] snekerpimp@lemmy.snekerpimp.space 66 points 1 day ago (3 children)

He eats pizza with a knife and fork… allegedly

[–] fluxion@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Shovels beer nuts in his mouth like some kind of grotesque beast

Zohran getting under their skin. Love to see it

remember, the super rich are the enemy of the people, not your fellow citizens from different backgrounds

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 26 points 1 day ago

I have more in common with a homeless person in Somalia, India, or China than I do with the super rich.

What is this high school?

American government sounds more and more like the varsity sports team of America High

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Pretty much.
Look up Jim Jorden on you tube to really see high school nonsense. He's been at it for a decade.

[–] dcpDarkMatter@kbin.earth 22 points 1 day ago

You mean Gym Jordan, who didn't report on the sexual assault of teenagers under his care? That Gym Jordan?

Think the overt racism is bad now; it’s only going to get progressively worse.

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

It's the only way the right is progressive.

[–] Karrion409@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Words cannot describe the hate I have for the entire American establishment with the exception of Bernie, Zohran, and AOC.

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 33 points 1 day ago (13 children)

Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Mark Kelly I'll even chuck Tim Waltz in there.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 11 points 22 hours ago

Don’t forget Scott Kelly, not a politician but spaceman and just as cool as his twin.

Maybe we need more astronauts in government, take a good look at the big blue ball before making life and death decisions.

[–] Karrion409@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Add them to the exceptions too

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Jasmin Crockett might be a decent addition too. Wish Katie Porter was still in.

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We should throw in Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Ketanji Brown Jackson and Elena Kagan.

Oh, I'm sorry. Which country is it again that can't do UHC but can spend billions on blowing up rockets while people starve and or can't find homes/shelter in this same "first world country"?

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 9 points 23 hours ago

Is it India? Because that's where Gill's father in law, political commentator and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza is from. Maybe the D'Souzas can leave and take Gill with them.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 31 points 23 hours ago

Gill married Danielle D'Souza, the daughter of conservative political commentator Dinesh D'Souza, in 2017. They have two children and live in Flower Mound, Texas.

So Gill's father and wife are okay but a foreigner with differing political opinions is crossing the line?

With the whole Glastonbury kerfuffle I've come to know more about this band called Bob Vylan. They have this lovely song, and it goes ike this:

I heard you want your country back
Shut the fuck up
I heard you want your country back
Uh-uh, you can't have that
The only place I know
Stolen right under my nose
By ignorant scum
Tryna lay claim to a land that ain't theirs anyway
Wait - what did you say?
I heard you want your country back
Ha! Shut the fuck up
I heard you want your country back
Uh-uh, you can't have that
I heard you want your country back
Ha! Shut the fuck up
I heard you want your country back
Well shit, me too
[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 21 hours ago

Smells like fear

His father in law is Dinesh D'Souza, the conspiracy theories guy. And like so many other hypocritical Republicans, is an immigrant who became a citizen in '91 after coming here with his parents and attending school here.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 25 points 16 hours ago

Yeah if he doesn’t win the election after these attacks then the US has passed the point of no return. If even New Yorkers are too stupid to fall for this smear campaign then the US can’t be saved.

[–] Son_of_Macha@lemmy.cafe 17 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Dude America already is the 3rd world

But he’s already in a third world country.

[–] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 14 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

I asked my doctor if I should boost my vaccinations because I was traveling for work. He asked if I was traveling to third world countries and I told him, "Yes, the US." He boosted all of my vaccinations.

lol. Go back. The US has been a 3rd world country with iPhones for a long time.

Who? Man nobody has heard of desperate for warmth of spotlight.

Didnt they have the same reaction when somebody ate a cheese steak with a knife and fork? The things they fixate on...

Maybe if we keep squawking about a bunch of dumb shit, nobody will notice how many rural Americans are about to be fucked 6 ways from Sunday by this big beautiful bill. Then we can spin it as this guy eating with his hands made you lose your healthcare.

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 14 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Ask a MAGAt to name a third world country. Instead of naming one they will name the country of the race they hate the most.

Go back to the third world where you'll have healthcare, and food is cheap, and many services are provided by the government. Go back to where medicine can be bought without 4 doctors turning their medi-square tip screen around, where self made men can become something without the financial backing of a sexual terrorist. Go back to a land of opportunity, of potential, of downtrodden poor people in need of a voice. Go back and help them rise to the top.

We're trying to become the world's last 3rd world country here.

[–] helvetpuli@sopuli.xyz 13 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

I have nothing to say about Brandon Gill except of course: try to make it look like an accident.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Laura Loomer wrote on X that Mamdani "is from Africa. And you can tell in the way he eats. Disgusting."

If eating with your hands is disgusting, that's a you problem because you apparently don't wash them.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 9 points 1 day ago

Brandon Gill can go crawl up whatever asshole shat him out.

[–] lennee@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

i wish this gill guy erectile dysfunction for the rest of his life (sounds like he already has it tho)
