Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

First they came for the gamers, and I did not speak out, because I was busy hitting a sick 360° quickscope on Angel City.

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

Ah yes, because free health care pays my rent.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

Does getting health care mean leaving your basement?

If so, young men aren’t doing it.

Hell, I leave my basement frequently and don’t want to get health care because I’m sure it will bankrupt me.

If someone callled me an ambulance I’d fight them because I don’t have ambulance money.

[–] gerowen@lemmy.world 17 points 11 hours ago

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 16 points 23 hours ago

What free healthcare?

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 16 points 23 hours ago

Yes, that's why they're at home all day, and ignoring all the well paid jobs out there with free healthcare that I'm sure they'd get if they just went door to door with a résumé like these ghouls pretend they did in the 1950s.

[–] technomad@slrpnk.net 15 points 1 day ago

What free healthcare because it sounds like I've been fucking doing it wrong this whole time holding down job after SHITTY job since I graduated high school and don't have shit to show for it. Fuck all the way off attacking the one thing that brings joy to my life you disingenuous piece of shit.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 15 points 20 hours ago

the rich siphoning money for themselves is infinitely more damaging than anything else

[–] flop_leash_973@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

What about all of those congress critters that get that big bad "socialized medicine" that the common people can't (funny how it is fine when it is for them isn't it.)? I bet that costs a shit ton given the average age of congress critters. How about we make some cuts there?

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 14 points 22 hours ago

Y'all got free healthcare?

[–] iMastari@lemmy.world 14 points 16 hours ago

I only play computer games after I get home from working hard all day.

[–] JIMMERZ@lemmy.world 13 points 20 hours ago

Where is this free healthcare? Because I'm paying out the ass for my very minimal coverage.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 13 points 20 hours ago

Shut the fuck up, boomer. No seriously, get that dated, old man yells at cloud bullshit out of politics.

[–] Pulsar@lemmy.world 13 points 8 hours ago

Healthcare is just a way to coerce the working class to produce value for the wealthy. That is the real reason why there is no universal healthcare in America.

[–] Star@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

And? What's the problem with that? In an ideal society with present technology we can afford to feed and house literally everyone. Let artificial scarcity rule you no longer. Let the people play games, and when 'work'is no longer, the obligation of wages they wil do it willingly, happily, and with enjoyment. Or at least wnough of us will to feed all.

So what if some get fed more than they work? I like helping people. We should have plenty to spare without the parasite class.

As an Aussie who has always enjoyed playing (and making) games, I've had free healthcare all my life and have only worked my arse off.. Like most people I know.

He must be thinking we get the same healthcare they do. That's how far removed they are.

Luigi killed the CEO on call of duty, makes sense

[–] forrgott@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 6 hours ago

Ah, yes, because I don't need money for rent and food, just healthcare.

What a moron.

[–] rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Is this the one who gets his son to monitor whether he's masturbating or not? Or is that some other guy?

Just in case you forgot, getting rid of video games is part of Project 2025. Republicans have had a vendetta against them since Mortal Kombat came out in the arcades back in the 90s. And in some ways they have been against them since their very inception with Pong and Tetris.

No that is what billionaires do mooch off the tax payer.

[–] dzsimbo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Oooh, I'm one of those! Gaming on foodstamps and social health in a US state, AMA.

[–] match@pawb.social 12 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

How does it feel being rich???

[–] dzsimbo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Truly wonderful.

You need the gaming in this lifestyle to help divert attention from not being able to get comfort foods at month's end.

Otherwise it leaves me all the time to realize the physical and mental hells I am putting myself through. I've been qualified for free health care for over a year, but I just arrived to the point where I can reach out and engage the system. I initially thought enrolling would come in handy if I get into an accident, but last week I made the call to start preventive treatments.

I have an appointment with an actual doctor next month. I am also getting the ball rolling on the emotional side. I was contemplating moving back home, but now I might give this current iteration some more time.

edit: i just reread the title (of course I didn't read the article); I'm 40.

He seems to know a lot about "young boys."

So basically, they are mooching off of free healthcare - by performing by one of the most risk free activities that is almost going to guarantee they won't need healthcare in the first place?

MAGA tactic:

Take negative stereotype, say it is preventing a desirable goal from being reached, then say it is because of what you are actually trying to cut. Doesn't matter if they barely have any real relation to each other.

Why would anyone want to waste their life working for any of these exploitive cunts. I’d much rather play video games.

[–] burgerpocalyse@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

the population of young men who do nothing all day, have no interest in employment, but are also extremely motivated to apply for and maintain their access to healthcare and make regular doctor appointments
