NEW YORK (AP) — Famed investor Warren Buffett is donating $6 billion worth of his company’s stock to five foundations, bringing the total he has given to them since 2006 to roughly $60 billion, based on their value when received.

Buffett said late Friday that the shares of Berkshire Hathaway will be delivered on Monday. Berkshire Hathaway owns Geico, Dairy Queen and a range of other businesses, and Buffett is donating nearly 12.4 million of the Class B shares of its stock. Those shares have a lower and easier-to-digest price tag than the company’s original Class A shares, and each of the B shares was worth $485.68 at their most recent close on Friday.

The largest tranche is going to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust, which will receive 9.4 million shares. The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation will receive 943,384 shares, and the Sherwood Foundation, Howard G. Buffett Foundation and NoVo Foundation will each receive 660,366 shares.

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation - controlled by another billionaire and their heirs

Susan Thompson Buffet Foundation - controlled by Buffet

Sherwood Foundation - controlled by Warren Buffet's daughter

Howard G. Buffet Foundation - controlled by another Buffet family member

NoVo Foundation - controlled by Warren Buffet's son

Billionaire philanthropy is a disgusting scam. It's a way of buying social influence for your heirs. Even if they don't get the money directly, the heirs retain control over the foundation and can direct it to whatever causes, often political causes, that they personally support. It's a way of giving your heirs money that they can use to obtain more power - which is ultimately the only use billionaires have for their fortunes anyway. The only use for billions of dollars is to obtain power, and these foundations are a way of passing power and influence to the next generation tax free. It's an abomination. You should not be able to donate money to foundations that you control.

Thanks. Glad someone typed this so I didn't have to.

In addition to what you said. Most "aid" organizations, especially when it comes to those with a billionaires name attached to it are used strategically by corporations to flood local markets with the crops or resources the country would need to sustain itself independently.

Meaning, they flood the local markets with rice for example, so that no local farmers can reasonably make any money growing it. This forces the local farmers to grow the most profitable crop that the corporations can best exploit for profit. Sugarcane, Bananas, whatever is a very climate dependent crop usually.

Those who come with wheat, millet, corn or milk, they are not helping us. Those who really want to help us can give us ploughs, tractors, fertilizers, insecticides, watering cans, drills and dams. That is how we would define food aid.

-Thomas Sankara (Pan-Africanist revolutionary)

This is the "soft power" of imperialism. It is about forcing dependence in under developed countries to keep them from becoming self sustainable.

Allowing billionaires to decide who gets aid and what they get is a fundamental part of imperialism and capitalist exploitation.

Billionaires are parasites. If they wanted to help people they'd jump infront of a bus.

Holy Shit! Finally people are speaking out against this shit. They are not good people helping the world. They are jerking themselves off and they want everyone else to clap for them.

Yeah! Let's shit on one of the few IF NOT ONLY, billionaire who is actively taking action to fight against his own tax class in support of the 99.9% of American's who are not in his tax bracket. Someone with congressional bills setting minimum tax rates for the top 1% named after them and was proposed to congress with Presidnt Obama's support, all before getting shut down by congress (guess what income % every congressman and senetor fall under????).

He actually earned his massisive pile of wealth because hes always been an obsessed autist geek with an estimated IQ over 150 tracking stock market data by fuckin pen and paper. And im not saying he built it from nothing he was dirt poor he worked for every penny - no, im saying he had a wealthy up bringing but before he saw any inheritance, he was already an established wall street 1st team all american supermarketbowl mvp investor and has remained as Berkshire's board chairman for its entire existence after leaving textile. No one in the .01% has come close to his accomplishments or tenure as a CEO BECAUSE hes the only one who doesnt fit the billionaire mold.

If you need any more proof he doesnt operate like the rest of his tax bracket, tell me how many other billionaire CEOs who operate their salaray and bonuses the same:

The salary for Buffett is $100,000 per year with no stock options,[4] which is among the lowest salaries for CEOs of large companies in the United States. Buffett's salary has not changed in 35 years. Buffett also receives approximately $300,000 worth of home security services from the company annually.

BUT FOR FUCKS FUCKING SAKE PEOPLE THE MOST IRRATATING THING ABOUT THESE RESPONSES SHITTING ON BUFFET IS THAT HIS FUCKIN TRUST HES LEAVING HIS KIDS IS .01% OF HIS $140+BILLION ESTATE. WITH THE OTHER 99.9% GOING TO THE LISTED NON-PROFITS ABOVE WHICH ARE RAN BY HIS KIDS WITH THE REQUIREMENT TO ACCESS THEIR SPLIT .01% INHERITANCE BEING THAT THEY HAVE A 10 YEAR LIMIT TO GIVE THE ENTIRE $140+BILLION HES LEAVING TO HIS NONPROFITS AWAY.

Buffett announced in June that he would donate his fortune, now valued at nearly $144 billion, to a charitable trust managed by his three children when he dies, instead of giving it to the Gates Foundation, as he indicated 18 years ago.

The next generation of Buffetts will then have 10 years to give the money away, Warren Buffett said.

He's too fuckin autistic to be a piece of shit billionaire. He blew up D.C. in interviews when he found out his secretary was paying higher income tax rates than he was. He doesnt flip flop political stances based on who is in office. All of his nonprofit foundations and trusts donate (*im not going line by line but its all there in their public 990 forms or whatever theyre called) almost entirely to left of center charities and the amount donated NOT TO HIS FOUNDATIONS BUT IN THE FILINGS MADE BY HIS FOUNDATIONS TO OTHER CHARITABLE NON PROFIT DISPERSMENTS IS IN THE FUCKIN BILLIONS EVERY YEAR WITH A % OF ALL LIABILITIES AND DISTRIBUTIONS THAT GO TO CHARITY IN THE 80%-90% RANGE.

Im so sick of the "im too lazy to fuckin look anything up so im just guna shit on everything that the trending hivemind tells me to shit on because everything sux, the world is horrible and any good news is a cover up for how shitty everything really and its entirely every person in every generation that came before me's fault"

(dont. Just dont. Im going off of articles written about him and no i didnt spend the time researching how they estimate an iq but its universally reported as being genius level which tracks with his obvious autism)
