Summary

Five Republican Minnesota state senators plan to introduce a bill classifying "Trump Derangement Syndrome" (TDS) as a mental illness, defining it as "acute paranoia" about Trump's presidency.

The bill argues TDS causes hysteria, verbal hostility, and aggression toward Trump supporters.

Critics argue this represents a dangerous politicization of mental health diagnoses that could suppress political expression.

The bill will be read Monday before the Minnesota Senate Health and Human Services Committee, where Democrats hold a narrow majority.

Never, ever forgive magats for bringing this to our country. Don’t let them squirm out of it or try to play dumb, this is exactly what they wanted. Trump is the symptom and they are the disease

As an outsider from Canada ... I also blame all those idiot Americans who just stand on the sidelines and watch the country burn down and hope that by doing nothing, no one will ever do anything to them.

Most of us just don’t know what we can actually do and are being gaslit by everyone around us that it’s not as bad as the media is making it sound.

So if you do something you are being irrational and the things you can do without being thrown in jail have no results currently (and are being done to no avail). If you don’t do something you know it’s going to get worse. And then the worse thing you know that’s coming requires really serious counter measures.

Which if you act on timely you will be seen as over reactionary - and the problem. And then everything worse that comes after that will be seen as an appropriate response to the “radical violent and lunatic left”

Most of us in my lefty group are just starting to stockpile food and water. Either it’s full market crash or worse. So. Have the essentials on hand and a method to protect them. Fingers crossed it won’t get to that. But. It probably will.

What Americans probably need to do is in their own Constitution.

"Hurr durr, I'm not political so I don't really pay attention"

Well your existence is about to become political, so maybe it's time.

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Yeah, the non voters also make me quite pissed off as well. I basically hate everyone in this country other than Harris voters. Sorry our country is full of garbage and treating your great country this way, I’ve cussed anyone out hard that I’ve heard supporting it if it’s any consolation

One of the sponsors of the bill, Justin Eichorn, just got arrested on suspicion of soliciting a minor.

I propose we make CBS a mental illness (Chronic Bootlicking Syndrome), people who have CBS may inhibit the following symptoms:

  1. Blind obedience to authority
  2. Lack of critical thinking skills
  3. Inability to think independently
  4. Blind anger and agressesion towards those who are weaker
  5. Inability to feel sympathy and/or regret
  6. Lack of empathy and/or love
  7. Inability to form genuine interpersonal relationships with ones peers (that are not based on coercion or fear)
  8. Forming strong parasitic relationships with authority figures to the point of obsession
  9. Delusional visions of the world including the past, present, and future
  10. Delusional visions of ones place in society, specifically the idea that they will gain leverage in society by bowing down to authority
  11. Severe lack of class consciousness to the point that they feel closer to the capitalists then their peers (workers)

This list is not complete, people who have CBS are highly advised to read some theory and maybe try feeling human emotions. However if left untreated for too long it may become terminal and kill any ounce of humanity left in the person. As of now there is no cure, however therapy is a great treatment (effectiveness may vary).

Why do they even need this? There's already "oppositional defiant disorder", etc. It serves the exact same purpose. Psychiatry has always been about hegemonic control.

[–] cultsuperstar@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Because they want to distinctly label people as anti Trump. Just being opposition isn't enough. If they can do that, they'll probably start making us wear something so Trumpers know. Sound familiar? Obviously this is worst case scenario, but with the way things are going, I'm not putting anything past Republicans.

[–] ReluctantMuskrat@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Correct. Trumpers are ok with you having democrat derangment syndrome... that might lead to you storming the capital but that's totally ok!

The senators who proposed this should be removed from office. This is beyond a farce.

[–] el_muerte@lemm.ee 1 points 3 months ago

They should be removed from society.

[–] P1nkman@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

And what Trump is doing it not? The only laws that still exist, is the ones that repress people they don't like.

[–] CherryBullets@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 months ago

This is the most dystopian shit I've read this week. Impressive, all things considered.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They haven't seen deranged yet. And thats a lot knowing their own actions. Wait until their wrecking ball of an economic plan makes food impossible to buy. Then you'll see deranged.

[–] paul@lemmy.esquiretheduke.nohost.me 2 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Derangement was attacking the Capitol on Jan 6th. This is an excuse to jail anyone who dares disagree.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The thing is that doesnt matter. These actions will destroy our country before he is out of office. You'll be seeing starving children in the streets and much worse.

This is a test. They’re seeing if they can outlaw objecting to Dear Leader by legally classifying it as a dangerous psychological condition.

This is not about mental health diagnoses. This is the pregame to the American edition of the night of the long knives.

[–] buzz86us@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

So explaining reality to a Trump supporter is Trump Derangement Syndrome? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 1 points 3 months ago

Unironically yes.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

[–] Whateley@lemm.ee 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

We live in a fucking clown world.

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 months ago

Clown country.

[–] Franklin@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

the fucked up part is if there is a president after Trump it will take decades to fix the damage he did in 2 months.

we're still suffering from Regan's decisions

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

There will be a president after him. He cannot live forever, thank fuck.

Whether that president is actually democratically elected is yet to be seen.

I can't tell if they're joking or are dead serious anymore.

I have a mental illness -- 2 of them actually, Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Possibly will get PTSD thrown in that mix soon too. Therapists and Psychiatrists use a little book called the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, DSM-5 for short. Unless they can convince the APA to include TDS in the DSM-6 then it's not a mental illness.

This is nothing but thought policing and a way to label someone with mental illness when they really don't have one. It's also causing all of the work that's been done recently by NAMI, MHA, and AFSP to try to end the stigma surrounding mental illness to be set back to the era of mental institutions (something that their beloved Reagan did away with).

But what the hell, might as well add it to the DSM-6 and slap TDS on top of all my other mental illnesses 🤷🏻‍♂️

In first reading the title I was wondering if the bill was talking about people blindly following Trump.
