A plan to sell more than 2 million acres of federal lands has been ruled out of Republicans’ big tax and spending cut bill after the Senate parliamentarian determined the proposal by Senate Energy Chairman Mike Lee would violate the chamber’s rules.

Lee, a Utah Republican, has proposed selling public lands in the West to states or other entities for use as housing or infrastructure. The plan would revive a longtime ambition of Western conservatives to cede lands to local control after a similar proposal failed in the House earlier this year.

GOP:

hey, I know, we’ll just… not follow the rules

Democrats:

What can ya do? 🤷‍♂️

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

No seriously. Should they be chaining themselves to their desk or something? Jumping up and down and yelling hysterically? Concealed carrying and taking out some Perjury Traitor Greeds?

I dunno. Im askin.

Not voting for the bills would be a start. It's a pretty low fucking bar.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What bills? There’s always a couple dipshits in the bag, but not very many.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

128 Democrats just voted against impeaching Trump.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-impeachment-aoc-al-green-democrats-vote-b2776294.html

That's far more than "a couple dipshits". Stop believing that the Democrats are on your side. They are not. This is not a battle on party lines. It's a class dispute where the haves want to keep having, and need to keep us have nots in our place.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, they should have gone forward with the farce. I mean, they know and I know (I don't know if you know) that the impeachment itself would not get to the floor, would not pass a vote, and would not happen. But it would keep it in the news and it would keep the MAGAts barking.

Also I don't know if you know that the reasons for impeachment do not apply. They're arguing trump started a war. That's not the case. It might lead to the case, but that's not the case. "President Trump’s unauthorized bombing of Iran constitutes a de facto declaration of war." that de facto is doing a lot of heavy lifting and it was already fought over and won by republiQans of yore under Gee Dubz.

So they're not moving forward with a long drawn out battle that won't succeed and isn't based on fact.

Does it look bad? Yeah it looks bad. Is it bad? Not really. I'd much prefer they be out doing viral events to stop the budget bill. I think that's what they're really interested in spending the next several weeks on.

Rest assured the demented rapist can be impeached on any number of things that have a much higher chance of success than this.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 hours ago

Correct. It wouldn't have gone anywhere. That means they could vote any way they wanted and it wouldn't have mattered. They could've supported the movement to impeach to try and win voters over. But they didn't. They chose to suck up to Trump over you.

They are not on your side.

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

At the bare minimum they should be voting no. Too many of these morons are complicit with the current administration because they approve whatever Trump wants. Even though their constituents are begging them to stop Trump agenda.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Not disagreeing, but that's two years of federal-level opportunity to make some deals for the people back home. I'm just saying they might vote yes once in awhile on something somewhere on this side of the galaxy's "normal" in exchange for a yes from Them for whatever it is.

Nothing like the Big Boof Budget Bill, which holds the whole country hostage. We've seen lots of shutdowns before, a month or two and people get crazy wiggy. I think we should go longer, but I'm not in need of essential services at the moment. So I would think that.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trump govt is breaking rules!

Yes. They do. Every day. They'll continue doing it anyways.

What is the news here?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

The news is millions of acres of unspoiled public property will be ripped from us and sold to oil companies for pennies, and then be clearcut, drilled, and made superfund uncleanup sites.

No one but trump and the oil companies will benefit from this.

[–] hodgepodgin@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

The US already has enough land for housing and more than enough homes, just not the right kinds and not at all price points.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Who's going to stop them?

[–] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago

If you look at a map of the western states my home state of Nevada is fucked when this happens.
