Thank you.
I always love to read your texts.
Thank you for keeping up with reading them!!!
These posts are some of the best content on Lemmy and bring me back to the early 00s days of reading the physical PC Gamer magazines in all their glory.
Oh gosh, that is exactly what I hope to try and do! Thank you!!!!
Thank you for sticking with these, and reading them as I post them. I appreciate it a lot :)
I was waiting for this post, thank you! Since I discovered this "series" I've been hooked. It's nice to read some long content in a non clickbaity way (that seems to be the norm in the industry nowadays).
I'm really sorry about your nerve damage and hope you recover as soon as possible!
As for what I've been playing, right now I'm going through Blasphemous 2 (i loved the first one too) and a nice surprise: Pippistrello and the cursed yo-yo. A zelda-like adventure in which you play as a bat with a yo-yo fighting industry magnates to help your aunt recover the monopoly on energy she built to keep a grip on the city (I know! The setting is original, to say the least).
The gameplay makes you think of 2d zelda games, but the yo-yo makes combat (and even movement) a completely different thing of other games, I suggest you to try the demo!!
Oh that's so kind of you to say! I have to say, I've been pretty down about it all, but writing this up made me so very happy. I really love Lemmy for how easy it is to share these long-form posts :)
Pippistrello and the cursed yo-yo
Sounds wonderful, I'm looking this up now! It sure sounds weird, but the longer the gaming industry runs and ruins great things, these odd little different ones just make me happy!

Happy to read this (the part about writing this making you happy I mean!!).
Lemmy is great for sharing long posts, much like reddit was before the enshitification. It's good to see long elaborated posts here among all the memes and other low effort content. And in the case of your posts, they are also a nice read in my mornings because of all the possitivity and joy you can feel when reading them. You really pour a lot of that in your posts and it feels!

I love "'weird" or unconventional games. And right now, it's the indie world that provides these gems. In an industry that looks for the short-term profit like the "mainstream" videogame one, they rarely innovate anymore. They just pick a formula that works and copy it until they find a more profitable one, so innovation now happens mostly in the indie world, giving birth to games as odd as this one, a yo-yo player bat that goes around a city beating corpo suits to recover a monopoly! You won't see EA making this kind of game, ever.
I'm very sorry to hear about your situation! I wish you a quick recovery. Your posts are my favourite part of this community, so thank you very much for taking your time to ramble with us for a bit :)
Oh gosh, thats like the sweetest thing ever!
Thank you so much for saying that. I'm lucky that people like you enjoy them, otherwise I'd have lost steam long ago!!!
My partner had been pushing me to join Lemmy for awhile, but I came across this sub and saw your posts and was motivated to finally make an account. I really enjoyed reading through the backlog of them and the amount of effort you put into your posts is much appreciated. Steam Deck, GOG and Linux are some of my main interests in gaming so it's really great to read your enthusiastic and positive posts on these topics.
I'm also a big fan of what GOG stands for and thank you for posting that job post listing. I'm really tempted to apply to one of the positions even though I don't live in Poland. I'm pretty qualified and it would be amazing to get to work there.
Also, as I'm new to the community I was wondering what the preference here is for long-form multi news post summaries vs short "breaking" news posts. There's a few other people I follow through RSS who make these type of long-form posts and I've started making some of my own on my personal website. If it's okay, I would like to take inspiration from your news summary posts to compile some news from other more niche topics in gaming and post them here if that would be of interest.
I'm so glad you joined!!!!
It can all feel a bit strange to begin with, that's what I found anyway. There can be a sense of being in a...idk void where you're not heard for awhile, but give it some time. Join communities here which catch your eye, comment on what interests you, and by all means YES - please do submit anything and everything here!!!
I’m pretty qualified and it would be amazing to get to work there.
form what I heard after posting that, the location was important for some of the jobs, not all. So, I'd say you're going to only know if you're the right fit, and meant to work there, if you apply!!! I do know the people there are absolutely lovely and care so much about gaming. Do it!!!
As to what exactly, and how exactly you should share on Lemmy/here in this community...that's entirely 100% up to you. If anyone tries to tell you the 'right' way to do something, they're clearly lost. We on FOSS spaces like here and Mastodon really, really need more contributions. I know that 99% of this kind of space has the life of the posts in the comments, that's the nature of a forum-based world like Lemmy is, but I like to try things a little differently here.
Whatever you do, and however you do it, I'm excited to see it!
And again, welcome to Lemmy. You're in the right place :) :) :) :) :) :)
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Damn, sorry to hear about the nerve damage. That's really rough to deal with. I hope you're to lose yourself in Firebreak a bit next week; I'm also looking forward to it, and I'm assuming that while some of my friends will probably play it on Game Pass for a few days and drop it, I'm hoping at least one will stick with it for a while. And if not? I'm also intent on playing it solo. I love the Remedyverse.
As for my own gaming, I played a bunch of demos from some of the RPG directs from last week. Dreamed Away is looking to be a particularly inspired horror take on Undertale's gameplay with Earthbound's wrapper.
Thank you!
I was excited for the Space Marine remaster, but...I only played perhaps 1 hour or so...it's super disappointing, but that's on me for getting excited before it came out (again).
Firebreak is 100% my next 'big' excitement, I'm so ready to play it!!! I'm right there with you with the Remedyverse!!!
This was such a nice read! I can totally feel that you are inspired by old video game magazines. Feels so fresh and your personality really does shines through 😊
Also gifs convey so much at a glimpse, no gaming site should use just Screenshots I'm convinced now 😅. No really, I got interested in a few games on the list just because I "felt" them way more than seeing Screenshots on some news site.
I love those posts, thank you so much.
With Captain blood and tridents tale we even have 2 pirate themed games today. I am surprised by Captain blood, I know quite some niche stuff in video games, but never heard of it.
The one click mods coming to gog are really cool, allows you to step in a curated alternative form of a beloved game without the hassle. I'm curious what we will get there. I could imagine a version for gothic 1, which is such an interesting game, but very clunky - but there are fan patches to address that.
Btw. I see an "Arari" where it should probably be "Atari". Not to nitpick, but rather to express my appreciation for the post.
I'm also looking forward to the next remedy release, those guys are very special to me.
Again, thanks for the writeup, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also the wider look including the PS2 and gog office rooms. ☀️
Get well PerfectDark ❤️
I'm not the only one who sees the bisexual flag in the thumbnail image, right?
Its kinda like a 'test' (the image itself, I mean!)
Typically I use a picture of a girl by an arcade machine, but after some few comments off and on expressing their dislike for it, I thought I might try something else!
Unsure which I'll ultimately stick to :)
I liked the girl in the arcade personally. Whatever you choose will be fine though.
Hey, the bi flag similarity got me to open the post when the girl in the arcade hadn't. Wish I'd been reading these the whole time though, great stuff! I'll definitely check out future posts, no matter which image you use. :)
@PerfectDark
Sorry to hear your bad news. But great post as always.
Thanks, Bob!!!
Its a long annoying road ahead for the nerves, which is something I'm failing hard at ignoring! So, time and effort to try mitigate that sad news.
It did make me super happy to type this up and share it, so I'm glad its something you enjoyed reading through.
Appreciate your comments as always :)
Great read, as always. A little broken link on the previous posts section (forgotten "]").
Nice to see MS decided to make their (remored) pricing quite aggressive. Especially since it is sold with the dock included.
The base Xbox Ally should be as powerfull as the Deck. It is basically the same chip with 5 more watts of TDP, which can easily be done on the OG deck with a little bios mod.
The biggest one will be a serious blow to the Deck as well as other handhelds. The specs are clearly superior on all aspects, while still being very competitive. Depending on the autonomy and how much bloat was removed, I may be really tempted, despite being a pro-Linux... And probably install SteamOS (or Bazzite) as soon as it works on it.
I hope this will prompt Valve to update the Deck to newer hardware, or at least allow to officially tune up the APU power envelope to 20-25W (vs 15W currently), especially when docked, so we can enjoy higher definition gaming without sacrificing too much graphical settings to the Frametime gods (E33 looks kinda bad on the Deck, especially when docked 😂).
I too was wondering about MGS4 in the midst of all of these Konami announcements, since Volume 1 was so long ago now. MGS4 is just about the only reason I still have a PS3.
My wife and I rolled credits on Blue Prince. It's a great puzzle/adventure game, but I don't think either of us have the patience to see everything it has to offer. It would have been nice if they doled out more ways to control the RNG earlier and more frequently, but they did not.
I've also been continuing on with Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the first one. I just had a night of debauchery with a priest in order to progress a main quest line, and then had to give a sermon hung over, which went surprisingly well.
Wonderful work as always!
Curious to know how the xbox handheld will sell with a price of U$499

Thank you, as always, for making things easier and more accessible for others! It's truly so nice of you to do so, even if a handful find some things interesting, that's a win in my books!

Thank you! I've been looking at that for hours now, feeling lethargic and lazy to fix it...but when I'm called out? Well, I had to! So thanks for that :P
but when I’m called out? Well, I had to
lol, you're welcome!
Thank you for these wonderful posts, always a highlight on lemmy for me! And sorry to hear about the nerve damage, I hope things turn out okay for you! 🙏
As for what I'm playing, I've really only been playing the roguelite "no return" mode in the last of us part two lately. It puts you in a series of randomized combat encounters with different mods (some buffs, some debuffs), leading up to a final boss encounter. I found the gameplay in part 2 to be a fantastic improvement over the first game so it's nice to have a mode that focuses in on the mechanical aspects of the game. I also love the character and weapon upgrades in the story modes for TLOU and no return condenses that experience from 10-20 hours down to around 30-40 minutes, so it's nice to be able to experiment with different builds in a low investment scenario. Good stuff! Hoping they expand the mode with more maps and such but not holding my breath.
The only downer for me about it - it makes me really miss the "factions" multi-player mode from the original game. That was an absolute blast with friends back in the PS3 era. Anyone else play that and miss it? RIP standalone factions game 😭
Holly shit a New Ayaneo Flip DS. :D I have the first one that released last year and I love it. If you love WiiU, 3DS and DS games. This is your device. It emulates them flawless. It also emulates Switch games. You can also use a USB-C laptop dock to use it as a Mini PC or play on your TV. On Vacation's it's my gaming and workstation at once. The only downside is the Price but besides that... Man I love that thing!
Great mix of stuff in here! I was really excited about that rg slide! I watched some impressions and it's just so chunky and apparently uncomfortable, but still so alluring.
A lovely read for Saturday morning, thank you. I'm really surprised to learn that Cyberpunk is running sub HD on the Switch 2 and then being upscaled. Maybe I don't really understand it properly but I guess the filters and technology hide the jank?
Thank you for making this post!
Thanks again for your positive, takes-effort contributions to Lemmy! Especially with the nerve damage, I'd probably have just flat-out not posted at all if it were me. I do not know much about nerve damage but I hope things turn out well for you.
Thanks! It's more...probably the mental toll than anything, coming to terms with this nonsense happening to me!
It's just...alternating - most of the time it is quite numb to touch, like my nerve endings there register nothing at all. Then (typically night time) it feels like burning, a little like a hot knife? So I felt pretty sad, tbh. Still something to come to terms with. Hopefully with some care and effort it can be maybe mitigated, I doubt totally reversed...but again I won't know for around 6 months! Shitty!
All I can say is that for the bad things in my life, I haven't come to terms with them at all. I still consider them shitty and bad, even if I have found silver linings. I am not one of those "I am so glad X disaster happened to me because of Y positive outcome it led to" types, I'd rather not have had X happen at all, though of course I say that as someone who has not had such a big silver lining come of my negatives in life. The mental pain fades with time. (Can't speak to physical, thankfully, let us hope it stays that way, but that also means my advice might not be quite as applicable to you.) I do not and will not feel obligated to come to terms with these things or accept them (I accept them in the sense that they are events that happened in reality and I acknowledge reality as what it is, but not in the sense of being okay with it), it just happens to be that time means they take up less headspace and I do not dwell on them—a pretty similar end result to what I think most people who "come to terms" get. All this is to say: mourn, grieve, don't feel obligated to act happy for others, and the "come to terms, get over it/see something positive" path will not always work for everyone and you can move on with life without taking that path.
The gaming magazines were fun and all, but your posts take me days to get through because you really sell me on wanting to deep dive into everything, and you even provide links to exacerbate the situation!
Very nice work. These posts are genuinely my favorite thing I look forward to on Lemmy.
I finally started death stranding! I got goosebumps the first time I was out on a mission and the camera backed away letting you just experience the scenery and music. And then so scary when, you know, it's scary. Great at setting the mood. It's beautiful
I'm so glad you've started Death Stranding!
Keep in mind it can be a marathon - it can be a gigantic long game if you fill the gaps, doing the 'side delivery missions' etc. Just...take your time, enjoy the scenery! The second area is amazing. I hope you keep enjoying it!!!!!
(and thank you so much, comments like yours are - can't pretend otherwise - a big part of why I keep these coming!)
Love these, thanks as always.
Played a few demos at Next Fest, mostly games I’d been following for a bit. Was most impressed by Jump Ship. It’s in a very solid place getting ready to head into early access. I feel like they’ll use that to mostly fill out content because the bones are fantastic. And that’s not to say it’s lacking content anyway. It is a large demo. And it should be more solo friendly than Firebreak is reported to be.
On that note, I encourage you to temper expectations for Firebreak and utilize a game pass service to play it if you have one vs buy. I’m a Control fan, but also a big coop shooter fan (come play Darktide with me), and Firebreak did not impress when I played the closed tech test. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with it, but it was pretty bland for the genre and I don’t think there’s supposed to be a lot of lore development for the remedyverse. Solo is also something they are explicitly not balancing the game for. So I’d encourage not buying right away if that’s your plan for it.
Just wanted to say thanks for your posts and seeing as it’s almost like a blog ask: is there a way to subscribe to these posts on lemmy in a RSS reader?
I think if you click on anyone's profile in the Lemmy web UI (or any community) then you can click a little RSS button to get this link, not sure if it can distinguish between posts and comments though
