CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago police officer was unintentionally shot and killed by her partner after they chased a suspect into an apartment and encountered another person with a rifle, officials said.

Krystal Rivera, 36, a four-year veteran of the department, is survived by a 10-year-old daughter.

The partner was the only person who fired a weapon, and the “gunfire unintentionally struck Officer Rivera,” city police said in a statement Friday. An autopsy showed she was shot in the back.

In the military we had gun safety classes for those with personally owned firearms every time we got to a new duty station as part of the on-boarding process

Each one brought in a local cop to talk and inevitably in every talk they tell a story about their own negligent discharge of a firearm that nearly killed someone

I was in the military for almost 10 years, handled countless number of loaded weapons and I never once had a negligent discharge

Cops in general appear to have a problem with it though, maybe we should be the ones giving them the classes

There's a lot that could be done to improve cop interactions. Doubt it'll be done in my lifetime. Too busy giving them more protections and cop city.

All cops are fucktards who cannot handle firearms. This is why cops should have tasers and sticks.

The military issue isn’t so much negligent discharge as it is who they’re intentionally shooting.

Cops don't get anywhere near the firearms handling training that the military gets.

Why is it that female officers seem to be the ones who have negligent discharges more often?

There has been like 3 in as many months including this.

One shot a citizen who was totally compliant and was being disarmed as part of a traffic stop. She pulled the trigger as she removed it from his waistband and shot him in the leg.

Another one was clearing a house and shot at a mirror when she saw her reflection. Yes, she saw a uniformed officer in a mirror(herself) and shot at them.

And now this.

Nothing in this article identifies the gender of the partner who had the unintentional discharge.

The male officers just do it on purpose.

cops all over teh countries arnt taught the same way, and to become a cop varies from place to place. i wouldnt be surprised, if all they hard " was point and shoot,"
