the real problem was authoritarianism all along
Libertarian capitalism isn't much better since it still leaves powerful people in charge, and is a very individualistic idiology that isolates people.
But yeah, authoritarianism is bad in basically every case.
Not allowing people to gain any kind of power to begin with is what we need.
libertarian capitalism, i would argue, is authoritarianism wearing a different hat
Yeah, can't really disagree with that
So far, the level of similarities between the current era and the depression era are truly insane.
We have: Mexican Repatriation vs the current mass deportations
Crony Capitalism
A massive real estate bubble that no one is working to cool off
Tariff policies fucking with the economy
Massive speculation in a virtually unregulated crypto industry, fraught with the same schemes that the financial tools implemented after the depression were intended to prevent from happening again
Literally the only saving graces we have at this point are the Fed and the FDIC, or people would have been starving in the street with wheelbarrows full of cash by now
If you asked AI “how to cause the great depression a second time” it would probably tell you to do everything they are doing
I mean are you sure they didn't do exactly that?
FDIC is limited and banks can still have 0% reserve. It could take you 10 years to get a fraction of your bank deposit back, assuming it isn’t used as a “bail in” to cover their losses.
People doing hard work for low pay to help students learn?

The utter dipshittery in this is so proudly wielded by everyone involved. Hurrah.
