Hey, remember all those times some of us warned that "if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear" only applies under a non-authoritarian regime at best, and that there's no telling when a democracy may be subverted and such systems put to abusive use? How we cautioned that "the only secure data not prone to abuse is data that doesn't exist in the first place"?

This is so fucked up! If you have a precarious immigration status (something that can be revoked) you can be detained (without a charge) and essentially shanghaied away from your loved ones or your legal representative. No wonder their expanding detention capacities in Guantanamo and on military bases. This is a very bad portent.
