To be fair, there’s only one way to hold him accountable and the people that can won’t.

[–] alaphic@lemmy.world 43 points 1 day ago (2 children)

We need another Luigi, is that what I'm hearing?

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago

Or someone from Butler with better aim

[–] DemBoSain@midwest.social 8 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

One Luigi won't cut at this point. That would make things worse.

Oh there's more than one way. But only one real legal method sure.

"to the best of my ability."

Well, I'd almost argue he's following to the letter.

[–] MDCCCLV@lemmy.ca 32 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Founders when they realize they left out the part where the president understands what the constitution is.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 16 points 22 hours ago

"It's ok, only land owners can vote and if you have money that means you're A Smart Person™©® and will not vote for some absolute joke of a person who's so obviously corrupt it hurts to even think about. Yup that about nails it. Slap on some signatures and call this baby a government, done and done!"

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 8 points 19 hours ago

Don't give him the village idiot pass. Stupidity implies some of the damage he's done is without intent; he's just accidentally raping the constitution.

Whether or not he is an idiot (and I mean... he is) we should treat him as though every single thing he's done is calculated and intentional. He is an enemy to the United States.

...and on the topic of oaths, every single person in the military swore an oath to defend the constitution from domestic enemies like Trump, so if anyone in the armed forces is reading this, could y'all get off your ass and do your job, please?

To Americans in the audience, what do all the clowns that voted for this say right now?

They still gargling his mushroom?

[–] SHOW_ME_YOUR_ASSHOLE@lemm.ee 41 points 1 day ago

I'm guessing that Fox News isn't covering this so they probably don't even know he said it.

[–] TTH4P@lemm.ee 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have 1 MAGA "friend" and it's only because we have to work together. He truly believes everything Trump has done is wonderful, even as he has to pick up a 2nd job to afford daily expenses.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

How do they respond to the notion that maybe they wouldn't need the 2nd job if the economy was where it was when Biden left his office?

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 16 points 23 hours ago

Brown people are getting deported. That's all that matters.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 2 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

I’ve worked with a lot of Americans over the years- and I can confidently say that the one common thing uniting every one of them is that they’re pants-pissingly terrified to admit they may have been wrong about something.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 10 points 1 day ago

they don't know this is happening

Just like with laws, oaths mean absolutely nothing if they're not enforced.

[–] CMLVI@lemmy.world 22 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

He gets to claim he's too stupid to understand what those words mean in that order

[–] tburkhol@lemmy.world 5 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Oath clearly refers to the physical document. Doesn't say a thing about the words scribbled on it. That's why he's got it framed in the oval office: so he can keep close eye on it and make sure no one crumples it up.

[–] MDCCCLV@lemmy.ca 3 points 22 hours ago

My copy of the constitution is on the wall. Look, I'm upholding it!

[–] CMLVI@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

He's on the lookout for Nic Cage. Dude is a menace

The incorrect assumption is that he has taken a vow or oath in good faith or with intention to follow through.

[–] TrojanRoomCoffeePot@lemmy.world 16 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

Less than ideal, but as luck would have it the French have already crafted a marvelous invention to solve these kinds of problems.

collapsed inline media

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 8 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

This is where you go to learn about the constitution, Mr. President. Just place your head in the learning hole.

[–] dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 4 points 19 hours ago

If I ever open a school I will definitely be calling it the learning hole.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 15 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

He took the oath, as did every member of Congress, and every member of our military.

I suspect we're going to find out how much the oath is worth.

Thanks! I actually saw it on here a few days ago and decided that it was definitely a keeper.

[–] Yeller_king@reddthat.com 9 points 14 hours ago

No, like, he literally doesn't know what that means.

[–] pleasegoaway@lemm.ee 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Didn’t trump legally argue during his first term that he doesn’t have to “uphold” the constitution because the specific word “uphold” was not in the oath?

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 23 hours ago

He's the most sovereign citizen

[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 8 points 15 hours ago

If you can't name all fifty states, you shouldn't be president...

But why go with that when IF YOU ARE A FUCKING FELON YOU SHOULD NOT BE PRESIDENT.

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago

"To the best of my ability"

so technically not a lie.

(to clairify, because people on the internet tend to be bad at subtlety: I'm calling trump an incompetent moron with the above text. Actively and intentionally destroying the US IS defending it to the best of his ability, because he's an incompetent moron. Remember, this is a guy who bankrupted a casino more than once.)

[–] neclimdul@lemmy.world 6 points 10 hours ago

I know I said it and all that. I just don't know if I have to do it

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 11 hours ago

Oh shit, our Senators are TWEETING!!!!

Fuck you Raskin, do your fucking job.

[–] nandeEbisu@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

You won't believe this 1 crazy trick to do whatever you want while the US president.

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Can't he be impeached for breaking his oath?

[–] salvaria@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

He's already been impeached twice last go-around... It takes congress actually voting him out and nearly none of the GOP will do that

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah, I know. The question was more, is it grounds for impeachment. I mean he's breaking an oath

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

I don't think a GOP led House would even bring it up for a vote. The corruption is built in.

[–] Hylactor@sopuli.xyz 2 points 22 hours ago

And the answer is yes. But impeaching him has no hard consequences without Congress then giving him the boot, which they won't. He would stay in office, resources would be tied up, the proceeding would provide cover to do insidious things while the media is distracted by the impeachment shit, and at the end it would just feed his persecution complex.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 3 points 23 hours ago

Reminder that the supreme court ruled that mr president is above the law (or commits no crimes while in office, something like that). Expect the constitution to be deported next

[–] wischi@programming.dev 3 points 22 hours ago

Maybe the "Office of" part should be dropped 🤣

[–] LMurch@thelemmy.club 3 points 22 hours ago

Seems pretty cut and dry....

https://youtu.be/VIvhmRjzeYk

[–] jlow@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 19 hours ago

Ooof, I somehow glossed over the words "Office of" at first and that sentence gets a whole other meaning 😳
