Can I buy the service somewhere?

I am over self hosting stuff. I just want someone to provide the service for me.

Give me an expected disk usage and I will give you an offer.

[–] hanke@feddit.nu 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't doubt you could do it, but I'm rather looking for a reputable company providing it as a service. Not a random stranger on the internet 😄

[–] msage@programming.dev 1 points 2 days ago

First of all, what do you consider to be a reputable company?

Second of all, what does it change who is hosting it, Immich doesn't support e2ee, so even the 'reputable company' can see your photos.

Third, who says I don't have a company?

Warning to anyone that thinks about using an external service to sync/back up images. Immich is NOT encrypted. You trust these people to respect your privacy and not get hacked, or you would have to just not care. Ente or Zeitkapsel are fully encrypted and decent alternatives you do not have to host yourself. I personally will self-host but I will never ever trust someone with my private pictures from my camera roll.

[–] null@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Not sure how reputable they are, but it looks like there are places that will host Immich for you: https://elest.io/open-source/immich

[–] msage@programming.dev 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They are quite expensive, which is a shame

[–] timestatic@feddit.org 2 points 2 days ago

Immich isn't even encrypted AFAIK. I would never trust my data some stranger unencrypted.

I sent my self, or what are you asking..?

[–] Arcane2077@sh.itjust.works -3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

there’s no way to get here without being offered 50 of the services you’re “asking for”. Be honest

[–] TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's perfectly possible someone doesn't want to:

  • Buy and run a whole separate PC

  • Figure out how to install TrueNAS and configure it properly

  • Install and configure Immich

  • Figure out how to make it accessible outside of their home network while maintaining security

  • Come up with an effective backup solution

  • Do regular maintenance and replace hardware when required

Why are Lemmy users so incapable of realising others may have different preferences and priorities?

Not everyone can be arsed with the complexity or hours of work the above entails. Not everyone has the money for it.

I self host but I can definitely appreciate why people would prefer going a different route. It'd likely have saved me a lot of money, tbh.

This is me.

I work in IT and have no problem setting this up for my self. The issue lies in maintaining it, keeping everything up to date and secure.

I don't want a second job. I just want it to work and I am prepared to pay for it.

Have you considered the cloud based alternative to the self hosted alternative Immich provides? It’s on your phone already, “IT guy”

[–] Arcane2077@sh.itjust.works -4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

there’s no way to get here without being offered 50 of the services you’re “asking for”.

A real human would know this. I was hoping we could use Lemmy without bots for at least a little while

[–] null@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What are you even talking about? They're asking about Immich, not 50 different services.

[–] Arcane2077@sh.itjust.works -2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No, they’re specifically not asking about immich. What are you talking about?

[–] null@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Are you lost? Of course they're asking about Immich...

[–] Arcane2077@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just say you can’t read and save us the trouble lmao

[–] null@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 days ago

Post about Immich

Can I buy the service

What service do you think they're asking about, Sherlock?

[–] TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Get where? Lemmy?

What are you even talking about?

[–] null@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This guy talks like a bot...

[–] TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

He does. And not one trained on a particularly good model, it has to be said.

[–] Arcane2077@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Here. You can not read this unless you have an internet connected device

[–] TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Ok, so you meant Lemmy.

The person who asked the question is very well aware they are accessing Lemmy via an internet-connected device.

What does that have to do with asking if you can have a cloud-hosted Immich instance?

Additionally, how does it prove he's a bot (which you have asserted) or that they're a shill sent here, which you've also asserted?

I don't know whether you yourself are a bot trained on a very bad model, or whether you're simply extremely inebriated, because you're not making much sense.

Hey there. I learned about Immich from Louis Rossmann's channel. Promptly forgot about it. It popped up in my feed just now. This is just one way that Immich could come to the attention of anyone spontaneously. If I was interested in using Immich, I would probably also ask about paid services for hosting because my current circumstances prohibit self-hosting. But I'm not interested in using Immich, nor do I have the money to pay for such a service anyway.

Not everything is some sort of conspiracy.

EDIT: Also, if you think the guy's a bot, why bother replying? Furthermore, why bother replying as though they were human? "Who sent you" psssh smh goofy ah guy
