He's adequately square, but the dumbass that set him didn't quite push him flush. Most hotel showers have this problem. Sorry not sorry you will see this in every hotel room ever now.

I hope you didn’t pay much for that room. Looks like a crack den.

Yeah... Even the nice hotels look exactly like this if they're not brand new and you look closely at the details (with some exceptions.)

This isn't a one country thing either, go anywhere in the world and you'll see the same thing.

I just traveled internationally and 100% you are correct

even high end older hotels can look like shit if you get down on your knees to look close

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 months ago

Sometimes you don't even need to look closely.

Because the rest of that looks pretty nice otherwise.

That's some skanky-ass Motel-6 shit right there. Definitely dead hookers under the bed.

I had a couple of friends who work on hotel renovations. A crew would go in and work on 4-6 rooms at a time. They would have each one at a slightly different stage and rotate in new rooms when they finished a room. The schedule was intense. Basically as fast as the last stage could dry they were applying the next one. Rooms took less than a week and that included carpet, walls, a complete bathroom reno.

Not sure about other examples, but based on the caulk line seen here, I'd say it was installed flush but it's settled over time and pulled apart.

I've installed much tile and tend to notice these things. Uneven grout lines, one tile set higher than its neighbours, uncaulked gaps visible between the tile and wall or tub. I also notice, bad kerning (SFW).

I don't get it, it's just a rectangular tile. I feel like I'm missing something

It's askew and has a lip I could cut my toe on.
