Most Linux users didnt use Linux because it was sold to them. They had to choose to swap over on their existing device. The steamdeck is a completely different entry point. These people paid money for linux and a device that runs it. I think thats what @IsThisAnAI@lemmy.world was getting at?

Yes, but I think the more troubling piece is that it's embedded.

Some of valves work will and does support the community, however, there are still tons of issues in the general purpose side. I don't see the increased users base as big as of a win as everyone.

AOSP is running over 3B devices. How much of that has really impacted general purpose Linux desktop?

Ok, I dont think I understood your original point at all.

So youre unhappy that the hardware isnt 100% Foss? Or that the work valve is doing is specialised to only handheld gaming? I'm not sure what you are criticising and what an alternative would look like.
