What's an "active user"? Can I just up vote things I like, do I need to leave comments like this, or must I get involved in senseless flame-wars?
AFAIK, voting counts as active.
For this reason if I go on Reddit for a niche item that's not here yet, I only lurk, no voting, commenting, nada.
Thankfully, I'm having to do that less and less.
i dont even bother commenting on niche, unless i know the sub isnt well moderated or the filters dont care about your comment. many subs currently are on very high, so even if you get a comment removed your account will be flagged but not banned, apparently they keep track of each comment that gets removed and may consider the account spamming.
