fish harvester living in Carbonear, N.L., took a photo of it while fishing for shrimp last month.

Seems to be a term that originated in Canada to be gender-neutral and to distinguish licenced commercial fishers from hobbyists and such

On the west coast we usually say Fisher. Works.

That's what I would instinctively go for as well here in the UK, but to be fair I have no connection to any kind of fishing
