Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

I'm glad to learn that this is a thing; I've been doing my own cloud like service, VPN and backups using my own home built router/server and the consensus on both Reddit and Lemmy is that I'm foolish for doing so.
Thank you for making me aware that there are others like me so feel about relying on profit seeing parties the same way.
Hey, thank you! Obviously my show is very, very small. I appreciate hearing from listeners, and even fewer people leave a message saying when they are happy. If there is anything in particular you'd like discussed I'm interested as a fellow enthusiast. What are you using for cloud like service and backups? You should also be able to connect with the show on the fediverse at @linuxprepper@podcast.james.network or written notes are being kept on this forum: discuss.james.network
