Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

41% approving is way too high. WTF is wrong with people? And 51% approved of his handling of gender and trans people? What in the actual fuck? I am so deeply disappointed in my fellow Americans

And 51% approved of his handling of gender and trans people?

When the life is bad, people want something to blame.

The people who benefit from life being bad for 99% of us, pick small marginalized groups and blame them.

If we fix people's lives, they won't want a Boogeyman and society becomes more acceptable.

It's why the wealthy always want us to focus on social issues first, they want us to waste our time because the best we'll do is shuffle around what social issues we're fighting for.

We can waste all our time treating symptoms, or we can fix the root cause

Yep.

I am deeply disappointed in my fellow americans, and I absolutely find our conservatives in particular to be selfish, bigoted, reprehensible pricks, but bottom line is there's no war but class war.

It's not the death of a CEO that makes Luigi Mangione so scary to the 1%. They give no shits about his life any more than they do ours. They can beef up their security and go back to ignoring the herd of human resources just like before.

But folks on the US left and right were vocally behind him for a time. I think it shocked everyone, at all levels, a little bit, at how relatively little it took to rouse some class-consciousness. It was definitely noticed.

Edit - I suspect, but do not know, that this is also somewhat true for Elon and Tesla. I have this feeling that there's a sizable chunk of the US-right who hate him just as much as the US-left does, they just don't feel empowered to openly express it.

Even a solid portion of Cybertruck owners hate him now. They blew like $100,000 and got nothing but recalls and teen girls laughing at them at every third stoplight. There’s some sort of forum they all post in and I’ve seen dozens of schadenfreude screenshots of them complaining.

Full disclosure: I have a Tesla battery on my house. I didn’t choose it; the solar install company did. The the brand wasn’t even toxic yet but I covered up the logo with WWOZ (our local, non-profit radio station) stickers. I’m not paying to be some company’s billboard.

They are in a cult. Literally, that's not exaggeration. If you interviewed people led by Marshall Applewhite right before they committed suicide to "follow" him, they would give him high approval ratings too. These polls are flawed and will never show the true picture...

About 1/3 of the electorate is composed of backward degenerates. Trump's approval will never go lower than that. Where the other ~8% come from is the real question. Independents can be a really fucking dumb lot, if you haven't noticed.

I keep saying mental health but no one seems to want to agree with me. They just want to blame the first causal factor they find.

I doubt most people are well informed so there's room for improvement.
