Anyone explain to me why Trump thinks he's entitled to the minerals? All he's done is toss Ukraine out of the negotiation room, blamed them for being invaded in the first place, and now he thinks he deserves money? His people haven't even negotiated a proper deal, since a proper deal would have actual consequenses for Russia if they were to break the ceasefire....
IMHO, it's mostly random demands to gum up the process and give him more opportunities to let Russia eat Ukraine. It's ridiculous, like trying to extract payment for bombing the houthis, but in this instance, I think it's yet another lever to alienate the US from NATO, the EU, and suck off putin.

Because he's a moron and, more importantly, a bully. He thinks that escalating the aggressive pressuring and demands is the only way to prove that you're the most important one in the room.
It's also his fear response - see his handling of Canada and Europe forming closer economic ties in the wake of his tariff nonsense. He literally has no other tool in his toolbox. I'm just shocked that nobody sends to have ever pushed back against him and slapped him down before.
