As an American, I say why TF would anyone sane come to this shithole? I wish I could get out!
There are more than enough people who just don't give a fuck or don't know what's happening. I talked to a friend last week about the social media stuff and she just shrugged and told me she has nothing to hide.

Stasi was the Ministerium für Staatssicherheit of the GDR. It kept tabs on everyone and everything, decided if you were a citizen good enough to be allowed to go to college, decided if you were allowed to be in certain positions, spied on you with technology, friends, neighbors. They captured citizens they thought were a danger for their government, they killed people they deemed spies, they let people vanish over night.
This ended 1990 when the Berlin wall fell. It's been some time, but it's something you learn in school over here. And I would expect people to see parallels. But no, some have nothing to hide.
That's very interesting and something I will have to do further reading on. Our closest parallel would probably be indigenous reserves and residential schools (read: assimilation schools). I was taught it but I think that may have just been partially where I grew up and a specific teacher that really put care into the subject. Anyone older or who grew up in other parts of the country (Alberta) even today probably don't learn anything about our horrid past (and present, reconciliation is a goal, not reality).
If she's ever posted anything that can be interpreted as anti-trump, anti-republican, pro-democrat, pro-lgbt, or just anything the regime doesn't like, she has something to hide
And here comes the worst part, that list isn't final. They're ready to move the goal posts further as we speak. What's OK now could get you in custody tomorrow.
Ask her for her passwords so you can see everything she posted asn all the DMs. See if she has anything to hide from you.
Hahaha won’t gaf when US marines are taking over Canadian resources and governments, turning Canada into a territory. And hellfiring our cities. Maybe then they will notice?

Did I miss where your nut jobs proudly went all gestapo on your own citizens? I mean I remember the truckers shutting things down, and Ford... well what more need be said? But you're still noticably better off from what I can tell.
I believe we are but we mustn't be so foolish as to think we couldn't slip further. I don't think we will, partially because of the states' example, but I'm still cautious.
Just like in your country, there are many here who would just like to pretend this is all business as usual, "ignore the politics", and carry on
And there are Canadians with those predatory timeshares in Florida that are damned either way….
Since you are stuck there, hopefully you can work together with others in the same position to fix your country's problems.
