They can’t. Besides the Nazis, who are ok with that site, there are people whose livelihood depends on their presence on Twitter. On top of that there are the addicts. Back when I left Reddit because of the API debacle, it felt like quitting smoking all over again. I can only imagine it’s worse for people who have been on Twitter for a decade. There are also those who don’t care at all. Yeah, fuck those in particular.

And leave to where actually? Bluesky became what Twitter has been pre Musk basically over night. The same pool of self absorbed, self righteous people. Better than current day Twitter, but still shit.

Mastodon users got their sense of humour removed from them in some eldritch ritual. Also getting antagonised for not using their favourite OS or hardware is tiresome kindergarten crap. Again, better than Twitter, still shit.

If you don’t engage with politics and news at all, there is not that much of a reason to switch.

Honestly if the bluesky and Mastodon crowds were federated, a lot of the gaps in the respective communities would be covered

The only other crowd I feel isn't really represented much is the photography/arty/music crowd that meta seems to have somehow not pissed off enough to cause any large exodus. I'm mostly talking about Instagram, but a chunk of them seem to actually use threads bafflingly
