I know. I moderate !hardware@lemmy.world which I joined initially when finding out about Fedi. I actually started posting/modding there because the only other tech hardware community was on ML. I otherwise I use Piefed.

I am talking about people in general who don't know the nuances of Lemmy/Piefed/Mbin and the Fediverse in general.

The lead developer being a fake communist (based in America no less πŸ˜‚) and supporting russian genocidal imperialism is not a good look for an alternative social network (more so people for living in Europe).

So, I have Lemmy now and just made an account on PieFed. I donΒ΄t want to use multiple platforms. What would you suggest? Better PieFed?

[–] Alphane_Moon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Yes, I personally like Piefed better (as I said, I keep this account to mod !hardware@lemmy.world).

The Piefed devs are friendlier and are not tankies.

The platform has consolidated comments, flairs, polls and better mods tools.

Thanks! I have to say I like the lay-out of Lemmy more. Is there a way I can adjust the lay-out of PieFed?

[–] Alphane_Moon@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Might be worth trying:

https://piefed.social/user/settings -> UI -> Themes.

There are several themes and some options in the settings, but for now there are not any great radically different options in there. You can also use apps of course. But if you prefer the feel of Lemmy there's nothing wrong with staying there instead! :)

My hunch would be that there will be a lot more options available for the look and feel of PieFed a year from now.

You could try the layout using the Photon frontend of Piefed if that’s more your alley.

[–] Little_Protection434@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Seems like Photon for PieFed is still in development.

[–] squirrel@piefed.kobel.fyi 5 points 1 week ago

You could also try Blorp

[–] Xylight@lemdro.id 1 points 1 week ago

You can use photon from phtn.app and login to your piefed account. It has the majority of available API features right now

Pick the one you like the best, really.

Also note that, no matter which one you choose, the developers don't matter that much. What matters is the admins, the people running your instance. Your PieFed account is in piefed.social where the dev (rimu) is the admin, he looks fairly chill.

I know we've been discussing this a while ago, but really consider moving your community from Lemmy to Piefed.

I did that with all of mine, I don't use my Lemmy accounts anymore

[–] Alphane_Moon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I've moved a small community over. For Hardware, I am waiting for programmatic migration tools.

[–] Blaze@piefed.zip 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You can migrate your community now already, or are you waiting for more migration features?

Yes, waiting for more migration features.

[–] Blaze@piefed.zip 3 points 1 week ago

Those would need to be supported Lemmy-side, so you might have to wait for a few more years
