They would have know this before putting it public, and someone signed off on the deployment. Here's a bet that Musk or his surrogates got a nasty gram from the whitehouse telling them to shelve it.
Who would have to know what? Foreign actors hardly require the administration's permission to engage in propaganda.
The people planning the update to X, IT staff don't tend to make changes to public facing interfaces without having some level of an idea what that change is going to bring.
Given the tendency for a lot of political talk on there, and the owners recent adventures in doge land I can't believe someone hadn't looked into this before pushing to prod.
