Maybe you would say I deserved to be extorted by the government for passing a semi truck instead of hanging around behind it. But essentially, making the threat that your insurance rates could go up by a lot OR you can the fine PLUS an extra fee to a private company, is dastardly. If their purpose was public safety rather than extracting money, they would not be doing this. They also lie saying the fine will be waived to get you not to argue and exercise your rights.
And then, of course, for a while after something like this you start to REALLY notice every time a cop does 11mph over the speed limit. Or 20mph. Or 30mph. Or doesn't use their blinker, and so on (and no, I obviously dont mean with their lights on for an emergency).
You deserved to be fined for breaking the law. They gave you an option to not show it on your insurance. You could've just paid the fine you deserved to get.
