If this ends in Tucker Carlson running for president we're SO cooked.

He has the messaging skills and charisma that Trump never had (he was the most popular TV show host for a while), and he's been an ardent white supremacist for decades (vs Trump's half-assed self-interested bigotry). He could probably make white supremacy look like a sensible option to even the Trump-averse right-wing establishment types, and to the corporations and billionaires that hate Trump for what he's doing to the economy.

Recently I've seen him co-opting traditionally leftist concerns about housing and affordability, and unless the Dems do the unthinkable and actually field popular candidates, that's going to win over even MORE people than Trump ever could with his blatantly fake populism.

Add in the usual caveats about how things don't need to turn out this way, etc. I'm just scared.

Our only option will be nuclear.

Sigh

Ok boys, get the Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert 2028 shit ready.

These late night hosts and their writing teams would, unironically, do a better job than the current administration.

I mean Stweard's been involved in pushing bills and has argued in the senate so he's less insane of a pick than he seems

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He's worth $120m so he's less likely to be bought.

[–] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Not inherited or extorted I guess, big plus.

I used to be against Stewart for President. Now? He's clearly intelligent enough, surrounds himself with the people he needs to research and get things done, puts all his energy into his work, and does it honorably. That's more than can be said for a lot of candidates.

I would vote that ticket so hard.

Co-opting leftist talking points on a far right platform has worked very very well for Nigel Farage in the UK.

Tucker probably doesn't have the charisma or political skill of Nige, but he's got other things that might fill the gaps. I'm honestly terrified of them both.

[–] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

That farage is still there is so puzzling, how did this brexit shit not blow up in his face?

[–] hotdogcharmer@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Because some people hate brown people more than they hate being hungry (or are simply incapable of admitting when they were duped)

[–] sunbytes@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

I can't think of many times I've heard him talk about it.

When I have, he usually answers the question he wished he'd been asked instead, or talks about how it didn't go far enough.

Or as far as he'd intended, or far enough to work.

[–] slag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 days ago

I’m pretty okay with Tucker running for office. It can end the same way Crossfire did: with Jon Stewart sitting across from him.

I don't know how or why people keep falling for this shit
