While I don't live in a rural area (I work in one, but don't talk to much of anyone there), when I did work a more public facing job at a grocery store in deep red Missouri, the people blamed Democrats/"communists" for everything. I still remember when my store was shutting down and the aisles were mostly empty, a regular said "this is what that Mamdani guy in New York wants! This is what a communist gorcery store looks like and he wants that for everyone!!!".

I hear and see the same bs too. When this shutdown hopefully ends, and if we are able to survive to the end of this presidency, the amount of stupidity, ignorance and hatefulness will remain. Idk if there is a solution to that, my niece is 16 in high school and she tells me that most of the students are exactly the same as boomers with there racism and hatefulness.
