I have a similar story, but instead of pay-per-view I had downloaded an alternate Web Dialer software when on the internet unsupervised (I was supposed to be doing homework), because my parents wouldn't give me the EarthLink password.
Turns out that alternate web dialer dialed a 900 number and charged my parents hundreds of dollars on the phone bill. I was grounded for a long while.
Hey I did that too, "Where the fuck is Biv Island" my parents yelled at me when the bill came in. Poorly photoshopped Britney Spears porn was definitely not worth it.
Lol I rotated through a bunch of Juno and NetZero free accounts. My family caught on though just by calling the house phone when I was home alone after school and getting a busy signal for two hours straight
Oh god Juno, I used the shit out of that.
This is gonna make me giggle all day. It seemed reasonable to assume I wasn't alone, but noone else ever knew what I was talking about.
I downloaded and installed a key logger on my Mac back in the day to get my parent’s wolfenet dialup password when they changed it thinking that would allow them to limit when I was online.
Much more sophisticated than I was. Probably would have taken longer to get caught too.
I wrote my own dial up program in Delphi and made it look exactly like the Window 95 dialer. Worked exactly as planned. Ha ha
