I actually know someone (big time ammosexual) that hates the NRA because they "don't defend gun rights enough", if you can believe that. But yeah, the Confederates constantly are trying to top each other on the "true conservative" thing.
They are just like Communists - conservatism can never fail, only people can fail conservatism. If there is ever any indication that conservative policies are failures, that's only evidence you didn't do conservatism hard enough.
So if there is lots of infighting about who is practicing the "real" conservatism, I'm not surprised at all, since they argue over who is truly "maga", too. The term "maga" is even less useful than trying to define what is "real" conservatism, since it's a nonsense baby word like googoo and gaga and the only real meaning associated with "maga" seems to ultimately boil down to fealty to one failed game show host who has no real principles other than bottomless vanity and greed.
That's because the nra really doesn't care about gun rights except for their actual clients being the arms and ammunition manufacturers. There's some hilarious history of them reviving some nearly dead gun control bills, and in not fighting too hard (at the time) against the gun control laws being enacted in the reagan era because (gasp!) some uppity black folks were carrying guns around. One of the best examples was when a crate of WWII era soviet rifles was discovered (I believe it was during obama's second term), and collectors of WWII memorabilia were avid about getting some. The nra didn't give a rat's ass about fighting to get any bill passed to allow their import (which was, at the time and maybe still, banned by some older laws), because, again, they only care about the interests of the manufacturers, which means they need people to be able to buy guns and ammo from walmart.
And that doesn't even factor in how big of a shit show the actual organization is. Their recent move from new york to texas was partly about avoiding investigation by prosecutors over embezzled funds. That gives 'ammosexuals' another reason to hate them, if they were a part of the nra at some point.
I'm actually really surprised by the lip service the nra is giving to gun rights about trans individuals right to own firearms, considering their willingness to compromise on a great many things in the past. Compare that to an organization like the goa, and they are clearly not as completely for gun rights.
