How come sometimes when you try to plug in something the first time, you often have to try it the other way only to find it was right the first time and you have to go back to the other way & it works (sopuli.xyz)

The Heisenberg uncertainty principle. Both sides are the right side until you try to plug it in, at which point the wave collapses to reveal the reality.
