Boycott US

Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

Even after Trump will be gone, the idiots making this possible still thrive and breed and vote. I'm not sure how to trust the US again in the near future.

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 50 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Or distant future, for that matter. The US has shown its true nature in voting for Trump not once, but TWICE. The US went from "friend" (as if anybody has ever been a "friend" to the USA) to backstabbing enemy in the course of a single election cycle. This is a warning for all future interaction.

There's actually strong evidence that the election was rigged in swing states where democrats performed consistently better down ballot, but mysteriously didn't select anything for the presidential candidate.

If that's what comforts you, you be you.

But the truth is that enough Americans voted for Trump, not once, but twice, that he got the presidency.

Acting like the Repugnicans after their 2020 loss doesn't endear Americans to me. It makes me wary of the entire culture if everybody is a paranoid lunatic making conspiracy theories instead of just admiting that ALMOST A THIRD OF ELIGIBLE VOTERS THOUGHT THAT VOTING WAS TOO MUCH WORK and thus let Trump have a shot.

Your country can't be trusted. For whatever fucking reason you want to make up. It doesn't matter what the reason is. Nobody outside of the USA should ever trust your country again until you grow the fuck up as a culture.

I'm sure you wouldn't call someone a lunatic if they had voiced concerns about unfair elections in other fascist countries like NK or Russia. How completely heartless do you have to be to completely disregard the personal experiences of someone just because you don't have enough time or effort to look into the validity of my claims?

The simple fact of the matter is that we were set up from the very beginning, they organized this nation wide through something called project 2025. And Elon Musk straight up admitted to throwing away democratic votes with his special voting machines. There is no conspiracy, it's all in plain sight, but people like you can't possibly imagine that there could be widespread corruption in the USA oh no.

A helluva lot of Americans voted for Trump 3 damn times.

There are a lot of slow learners down thwre.

how to trust the US again

my answer is simply to not bother trying

maybe after a decade of exceptionally good behaviour, I'll reconsider

Did we forgive Germany? Or Japan? Or Italy?

[–] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

in the near future

It took years, decades even, for the trust lost during WW2 to be restored.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 week ago

Sort of. Eventually.

But only after they proved that they were willing and able to be better.

In order: Yes. No. Yes, but qualified given behaviour over the past 20 years.

Germany accepted its role in the Holocaust and in the war. It took positive strides to make amends. The same applies to Italy, though its beginning to flirt with fascism again in the late 1990s/early 2000s made me start being ultra-wary of it. Japan has never really accepted its malignant role in WWII and, at points, has denied documented history. So I, at least, have not forgiven it.

(I also do not trust Turkey for its continued refusal to accept its role in the Armenian Genocide.)

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago

and let's be real here, what are the chances america actually makes efforts to fix what it's done - basically zero

I expect the best we'll get is an acknowledgement that "the previous administration was difficult" and then it'll be back to business as usual, no amends made

[–] Samskara@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Japan had a pacifist foreign policy though since they lost WW2.

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 2 points 1 week ago

They had a pacifist foreign policy forced on them. Doesn't really count on the morality side.

[–] baines@lemmy.cafe 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

enforced by the US

positive outlook on imperial beliefs is seeing a resurgence

and Japan as a whole is still racist and xenophobic at home

don’t forget their school history books whitewashing their atrocities

My Australian grandfather (fought in New Guinea in the RAF) didn't forgive the Japenese. He was appaled when my father bought a Toyota and disowned him. This was decades ago. So this will take deacdes and lots of forgibmess from.the US,.somethibg theybare not know for..so.id exoect it to get.even.more.toxic. On the other ha d it is hopefully bringing much of the eorld together. As an Australian I'd love for us to join the EU.

What about the countires the US invaded ?.should they forgive the great satan ?

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago

They may not vote, but only because there are no more elections.
