Not american, I get this Gavin person is governor of California, but what's going on here?
He is trolling Trump and his supporters by tweeting like trump. Cracker barrel is a chain that caters to more senior citizens. it has a very old school, very iconic logo that defied all trends in design for the last 50 years. They tried to change it, got a huge backlash, so they cancelled the change, Trump obviously claimed this as a personal victory, so Newsom did the same, and some people apparently can't detect trolling.
I just don't know enough about American politicians to be able to tell that it's a joke. With the stuff we see coming out of that country, it's not unreasonable to think that was a serious tweet.
Totally right. The subtlety here is that the source of the nonsense tweets this way. This particular account is mocking them by imitating. The hilarious part (at least for me and OP) is that the mockery went right over their heads.
He's made a habit of trolling rebulicans by acting like Trump.
Gavin Newsom is trolling trump by saying and typing things just like trump. In this particular one, he took credit for something he knows wasn't him. A MAGA dude thought he meant it and called Newsom stupid. Newsom is saying the MAGAS are too stupid to get it. Newsom didn't even type all caps, he's probably tired of acting like a narcissist.

An anti-trans wealthy right-of-center politician is duping Democrat voters into giving him attention ahead of being nominated for president.
No, he's not "trolling" Trump or MAGA, he's not "pushing back". The only thing these tweets have any impact on are Democrat voters. He's performing for them.
Having an attack dog in your corner is not a bad thing. He can draw attention away from real potential candidates for the Republican smear machine to focus on.

I don't like this liberal attitude that we need to not have standards and tolerate transphobia and hostility against the homeless to be able to beat Trump at some point. You either cross the finish line with everyone or you don't do it at all.
this is wokescold purity testing, and it's exactly why we have Trump now. Because wokescolds prioritized some future microaggressions instead of the very real, immediate Fascist reality and decided to dumb things like "protest vote" for Warren, or just not show up.
