Doing it on Live Television is the whole point. Trump wants the world to see exactly how to avoid things like Tariffs and get preferential treatment: bribe him personally and/or "kiss the ring".

So Trump is trying to hurt/disadvantage other countries/companies by decreasing the buying power of us citizens… ergo hurting their bottom line. How much money does the us give to the penguins, compared to other countries like China?
