Some of us are quite well armed and practice regularly. :)
Some is nowhere near enough. ALL of MAGA own guns, like a ratio of 10-1. Every single Republican I have met owns a gun, less than half of all the Democrat voters I know think all guns are unimportant or should be banned.
Pandora's Box is opened when it comes to guns, just like nuclear weapons: you either join the nations that own them, or become Ukraine and are too late to have agency and have to hope unreliable neighbors will help you fight powerful bullies.
What a dumb as fuck hope to to cling to. Buy a gun yesterday. Stop voting to take your own rights away, because MAGA doesn't care if you banned all guns in California - they can have thousands of rounds of ammunition delivered to their front door overnight if they wanted, and in fact are strengthening their armories and resolved to end LGBTQ culture mandated by their fascist religion and leaders.
Taken as a whole, blacks, women and LGBT have been the largest gun purchasing demographic since Trump 1.0. Some of these suburban white boys didn't get the memo. "But you will DIE fighting!" I can't believe how often that is the response. Yeah, I fucking know, better than on my knees, taking a fucking train.
I will not advocate for just anyone to get armed. Anyone who wants to? There's a learning curve, and it's steep. You have to practice, LOTS. As you said, start yesterday. Fuck me, get a Hi-Point 9mm if you're broke. They're heavy and hell to dissemble, but they fucking work, every time. I want this one next!
I'm kind of a dumbass in that I have too many guns to be proficient with all of them. But the guns I own for self defense? Just a few, but I practice with at least one on every trip to camp.
My perfect trifecta? 12-gauge Mossberg pump, Colt .45 and an AR-15. No, not the finest guns on the planet, but they work for me and I can work them.
EDIT: I should add a note. Every house on this block has a gun. Little old black lady across the street? Yep. Young lib guys? Yep. There was a thing couple of weeks ago where the cops might have been hassling a young black friend of mine. They weren't, and were actually very polite given the circumstances.
But fuck me, I saw men and women, no uniforms, rolling up and hopping out of civilian cars with guns. Nah, I'm watching. Had a pistol on my belt, standing in the street watching. And guess what? The old black guys across the street from him had weapons on hand, watching.
Can you imagine if these fascists knew they could kick down any door, free of personal danger?! It would be like if a government agency ran hog-wild over the rights of citizens in Los Angeles! The mind boggles.
