The unemployment timeline needs to be extended to meet job availability. I get that a small number of people abuse the system, but most don’t and it can take well over 6 months for find a job.
I got laid off last year. Submitted over 200 applications, got 4 interviews, and took the first one that said yes—for $30k less than my previous job, and still that took 7 months.
Unemployment is shit in Oklahoma. Worked 6 years for one company, got 5 months of unemployment. Took much longer then that to find work.
6 months is the most I’ve ever heard it paying out, regardless of the employment length. Since it’s the state paying it, there is just a “time period,” which for my state is 6 months for every qualified period…. Which appears to be 90 days of employment gets up to 6 months of unemployment (with the payment being based on salary). Hopefully I don’t find out.
Oklahoma its based on last 18 months. But in Texas when I had to collect it. It was based on the life time of employment. I had like 20k in unemployment availabile to me. Since I had gone 10 years of employment before collecting. I didn't get much think it was 200 a week. But according to the paper I could have collected that until the 20k was spent.
Oklahoma no matter how long you work its 18 months. Which for me lasted 5 months.
Oh I know but thats unlikely given they are pulling the rug from the bottom rung. Im a few weeks from the one year anniversary of being let go and I have massive education and experience and have been regularly looking and still do the paperwork for it even though im not getting anything in the hopes it gets it onto official statistics. Have yet to have one to say yes to although I did have one that I know was down to two where I was not selected and got past one interview on a few more. Heck it was only spring of this year that the replies were im not selected rather than something to indicate the position was pulled.
Dang. What industry?
I.T. - just told would not go forward with one but Im appreciative as it was actually open minded about experience that was quite some time back. They could have kicked me out as a prospect right from the get go but were willing to look at folks with a lot of experience who could take on the role (I was excited as it felt more like the aughts in attitude). I could not sleep as I realized I had answered a question wrong and could visualize when I had worked with the system. The other one I had this week was an initial but it sounds like I should get to the second stage in a week or two when they go into regular interviews. I.E. - it sounds like I passed the resume stage.
