As a resident of Washington state, I really wish these articles would include D.C. when they refer to the country's capital. This time, they are referring to D.C.
Yeah I went bug eyed there for a sec as a fellow resident
"for a sec"
First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist; Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a socialist; Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist; Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew; Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me.
Are you only willing to act once they are at your doorstep?
Kinda hard to accomplish anything material from the other side of the country.
google any major US city and put protest behind it and you will get swaths of news about ICE protests. It's not hard to step outside and unite with the people of the US, no matter where in the US you are. The notion that it only influences you, once those ICE thugs are knocking up your neighbourhood is the downfall of the will of the people. Grow some empathy and get active! Defending democracy is a hard and long task, but one ultimately worth fighting for. Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere.
I was so fucking confused lol
Don't worry, if he takes over those two your turn won't be far behind.
I’ve noticed with politics it’s pretty east coast centric along with comedy television/movies. Just assume it’s DC when it’s politics.
It's a city named Washington which is the most relevant to US politics so it kind of makes sense.
The city of Washington is located within the District of Columbia. But go ahead with your confidently incorrect statements
Yes, but it's easy to confuse with the state when "D.C." isn't included.
Without context, surely so. With context I think a moment to process is all that is required. I guess it would have been a good idea not to name two important places in the US the same thing.
i think americans get used to it but yeah it’s kind of shit. to be fair washington state used to just be a bunch of weird religious nuts and natives when they were naming the capital city, and not much else. not really a great excuse but it’s where we’re at ig. maybe in the 19th century the continental distance between the two made it feel less like there’d be any reasonable chance to confuse them, too.
