Young people no longer own computers.

The PC gaming industry disagrees, though. Half the user base on Steam is < 29 years of age and younger (and they don't count ages younger than 18).

Even still, gaming on Linux has exploded, and Xbox has been enshittified beyond recognition, so M$ is losing on all fronts.

Steamdeck and others is helping those numbers a lot and I assume it will continue to rise.

Are there any accurate figures for stramdeck users? I don't know anyone who has one, but plenty who have gaming PCs.

You're right, but in the age group 18-29 the majority isn't a PC gamer. You have also a lot of creative professionals who have a computer. But a lot (might by now be >50%) don't have a laptop. Also in college more and more people only use a tablet. I feel also a growing number of not young people are switching to a tablet or have a laptop laying around somewhere for that one time you need it.

For sure, but we're still talking millions of young people with at least a PC (for gaming).

Interestingly enough, the EU reports (as late as 2023) that desktop use to access the internet has gone down over the years, but so has tablet use. Laptop, phones, and smart devices (i.e. smart TVs) went up.

But I didn't see a breakdown of the age groups there, and it doesn't expand on gaming/non-gaming habits, just "devices used to access the internet".

I went through a phase where I did everything on Android tablets, then a Windows tablet, then back to a laptop. LOL I still have a desktop PC, but my laptop is my daily driver.

Interesting for sure, desktop going down doesnt surprise me much but hadn't expected tablet use to go down as well.
