Yay, slavery to Windows, sign me up! Now that we're getting devices running Linux that can do gaming thanks to Valve and Steam/Proton, the last fucking thing in the world I want to do is stay on Windows. I've switched literally all my applications to FOSS - games are the sole remaining reason I've stayed on Windows for this long. Come October, I'm switching to Linux 100%.

I just did it, and even with all the extra setup I've had to do (finding a non-browser way to access OneDrive, installing a kernel module due to my Motherboard manufacturer being opaque and unhelpful about a particular chipset, using that module to control fan curves, setting up EQs, etc.), I don't regret it.

There have been a handful of times I considered going back, but the power to do whatever I want with my system is just too good to give up. I just installed a Gnome extension that let's me have tiling similar to RiverWM, and just everything I can do that was locked down before is so worth the effort to figure out.

About three years ago I moved my only windows device (for gaming only) to Linux and it was the best thing I ever did. All my development and work machines since 2009 had been on Linux, but my only hold out was my desktop. Proton made it such an easy choice for me. Other than a couple games I played that had anti-cheat that wouldn’t work, it’s been great. And those games I just stopped playing.
