Of course this gets a lot more grim when you realise the grass had to be sliced to put under the microscope.

So they sliced a smiling organism and captured the expression at the moment of death.

I know I'm supposed to be strong, but I'm shedding tears. ๐Ÿ˜ข

I'm really sorry I should have put a NSFL tag on it

Grass, famously, does not die when it's cut. In fact to some degree, grass benefits from being grazed on, as grazers in a meadow will eat everything - leaving grass that is ready to grow back quickly, and severely harmed weeds and shrubs that will either die or be significantly set back while the grass quickly overshadows it.

True, the plant as a whole doesn't die.

But this particular slice of grass on the microscope slide?

Dead.

I suppose, but only about as dead as a sliced off arm, I think? And that plant gets to regrow that arm!

Ooh, don't make me link to That One CGP Grey/Kurtzgesagt Thing. Well I might as well do it. Existential Crisis One! Existential Crisis Two!

And that severed arm is giving you the thumbs-up gesture.
